~Caligo~ Cows appear and disappear as if the field were breathing them. Their breath becomes the mist that becomes the field again. What is missing is not the view. Sky pressed close, Distance withheld, The old certainty of a tower A voice calling across the ditch Now swallowed whole. Only the water still speaks, Quietly, in every furrow, As it has always spoken Of what it takes And what it keeps. The mist does not hide the landscape.
