Planning to start your building project?
Site your borehole at least 10 metres away from your soakaway and septic tank.
Anything closer and wastewater can seep through the soil into your water source and you end up drinking what you flushed.
Two extras most people never check. Depth matters as much as distance. A properly cased borehole draws from deep aquifers far below the contamination zone. A shallow one right next to a soakaway is a typhoid subscription.
And think about the ground slope. Water moves downhill even under the soil, so keep the borehole on the higher side of the plot and let the soakaway sit below it, never the reverse.
Plan both positions on paper before any digging starts. On a small plot, whoever digs first without planning decides where the other one suffers.

10 mistakes every new general contractor makes (based on what i've seen)
1. buying the image before building the business
2. relying entirely on referrals
3. saying yes to every job
4. taking a job that is too big, too soon
5. treating licensing and insurance as something to sort out later
6. mixing personal and business money
7. doing extra work on a handshake
8. hiring wherever the pain feels loudest
9. ignoring the gap between spending and getting paid
10. pricing without knowing the full cost
did i miss anything?
Gravity do not care about your project deadlines. Unsecured material stacking is a fatal accident waiting to happen.

Contractor or project manager.
You are literally on your toes until the job is properly done.
Architectural aesthetics should never supersede sanitary plumbing maintenance. The fundamental maintenance flaw of linear shower drains.

If your finishes are imported, order them at roof level, not when the shell is done.
Construction is the only place where six people can approve a drawing and the installer is the first person to notice it doesn't work.
Your contractor's AI tool is only as good as the site diary behind it. Procore's Groundbreak runs Oct 21-22 and the show is built around AI agents. They can chase RFIs and flag delays, but only from what someone on site actually logged. Fix the daily report first.
Design decisions that separate a high-end shower from a standard build. First, the MEP layout is optimized for the user. the shower valves are intentionally placed at the glass door entrance, completely decoupled from the showerhead.
How to actually plan a shower layout. Install the mixer valve right at the glass door entrance, completely separated from the actual showerhead. This allows you to turn the water on and let it warm up without ever stepping inside or awkwardly reaching around.
A kitchen sink leak is inevitable. how your cabinetry handles that leak is what separates professional design from amateur carpentry
Preparing an EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finish System) facade for its base coat. The expanded polystyrene (EPS) panels have been installed and the joints filled with adhesive foam. Before any mesh is applied.
This is how you actually insulate a building in extremely cold regions by installing thick rigid insulation panels(EPS boards) directly to the outside of the block wall, making sure to stagger the joints like a brick wall to prevent any heat from sneaking through. This system traps the heat inside and keeps the cold out.
