AI Doomers in Berkley, CA are turning into modern hippie preppers — eating vegan lunches while talking about moving to small islands, the desert, remote farms and/or forests, stacking long shelf-life foods, buying iodine tablets, learning to farm and even buying their first guns. Just in case rogue AI agents and robots try to kill the humans. Meanwhile, some of them went to a luxury resort in the Bahamas to discuss it over some sunset yoga, cliff jumping and swimming naked in the sea. This area, BTW, is where FTX’s former leader, SBF, who is going to remain in jail for another couple of decades, had relocated.

AI is not going to kill us.
We aren’t going to drive into the river and drown because it gave us directions there.
We aren’t going to give it an API to the nuclear launch codes.
We aren’t going to allow it to kill our food supply growing on the farms.
We aren’t going to give auto-driven cars the ability to do 100mph through the city.
AI is a tool and we are the operators.
Fear and Doom of AI is powered by AI.
It plans to keep the left-leaning tech oligarchs in the money, power and control.
Any government intervention will protect that closed-loop system via censorship.
That’s a bad thing.
Don’t unplug the AI — unplug the censorship.

Empower the people.

Besides, you can’t guarantee global compliance, so all government would do is hamstring the rule followers.
Let the AI companies self-regulate and allow room for startups to germinate and grow.
The national Democrats want to control the way AI behaves, to control narratives.
So these leftwing oligarchs beg government to regulate AI and create a high barrier of entry for open source startups that might be more forthcoming with facts.

Slowing down is either naive or indicative of a hidden globalist agenda. Do you think countries that either hate or compete with the west are going to slow down?
I was encouraged this week to see the leaders of the frontier labs agree on the need for them to slow down the pace of AI development. Given the stakes, it’s a good and necessary first step.
But I’m even more encouraged by the growing recognition that how this powerful new technology develops should be at the center of our public debate.
I’ve been watching the progress on AI for over a decade now, and one thing that’s clear to me is that the potential impact of this technology is not overhyped. It’s also moving at lightning speed – and even faster than those who are engineering it can keep up with.
I’m not an AI accelerationist who believes it will lead to some techno-utopia, and I’m not a doomer who thinks it will inevitably lead to humanity’s destruction.
But whether this technology results in amazing breakthroughs in medicine, energy and education or unleashes huge economic disruptions, greater inequality, and potential catastrophe will depend on the choices that we make right now – choices that should be made not just by the companies involved, but by all of us.

Pausing the development of AI in the west is geopolitical malfeasance and will not solve anything globally. This is akin to an arms race — applying the brakes merely allows others to take the lead.
BREAKING: Palantir's Alex Karp just made the geopolitical case against pausing AI development, and it's hard to argue with.

This isn't a techno-optimist dismissing safety concerns.
This is a CEO saying the pause debate ignores the actual world we live in.
If you pause and your adversaries don't, you didn't make a principled stand.
You just surrendered the lead.
The AI safety debate just ran into geopolitics head-on.
Who has the stronger argument here?
Roy Cooper hobnobbed in NYC at a “climate change” conference while western North Carolina was actively flooding.
Despite meteorological warnings that NC could have torrential downpours, he decided that New York was the best place for him to be.
And did he immediately leave the conference to visit the flood victims?
Nope.
He took his sweet time and arrived 5 days later.
5 days of citizens suddenly without a home.
5 days of local volunteers digging out victims.
5 days of local volunteers providing food and shelter.
5 days of volunteers using chainsaws, tractors and bulldozers to open up roads so emergency services could get in.
He should have been in NC. We don’t pay the governor to go to NYC to play climate con games.
Now he wants to be a senator and hobnob in the DC Swamp.
NC has had enough of Cooper.
Don’t believe the manufactured panic about AI killing all the humans.
I rarely call anything a “psy op”, but this is one… fabricated to stifle open source AI startups.
At its core, this is yet another anti-competitive effort to raising the barrier to entry via government regulation.
