Our stupid LG TV died last night. Backlight flaked out. Half the screen was dark then then whole. In light of the recent @GamersNexus videos, we won't be buying a new LG TV. I just wish we knew what brands were actually "safe" to buy.

I see a lot of coverage on the open source exception in California for age verification. That doesn't really solve the problem. 1. websites still have to block users who don't verify. That means the OS is off the hook, but the user is treated as a child online.

2. Other laws don't have the exceptions. Illinois comes to mind as well as brazil. An OS still has to build something for that area. 3. Fingerprinting of most kids will still happen. This means bad guys know who kids are!

Meta should just take away the ability to record video on their smart glasses. That solves all the "perv" issues in one go.

What's your favorite root kit? I think Sony wins this with their classic DRM rootkit on audio CDs. Their recent anti consumer stance on physical media reminds me of that time.

rspamd supports LLM now. We can do spam filtering with AI on the server.

I find it annoying that aside from copilot, there is no solution to an IDE plugin for jetbrains products outside of their own AI sub. Mistral locks there tool behind enterprise plans (stupid). Google took theirs away with the antigravity downgrade.

I can work in the terminal with intellij most of the time and be OK. What I miss is having it in datagrip! If i trust the ai (which i don't that much), i could have it work on the database directly but i'd rather have it help me with my sql in the editor and review it first.

there are hacks to get mistral working in the intellij module, but i'd rather have a dedicated window for each one like i used to have before they locked it down.

AI training is now running on botnets. They're coming from consumer IP addresses across the world. wow.

I managed to get mistral vibe running on MidnightBSD! There is a port now. A few caveats: vibe is built on some python libraries that have changed a lot between versions. Not their fault, but it complicates things. I had to add a patch for this.

I'm ssh'd into a midnightbsd box here and running vibe on it. I gave it an easy task to test here from a recent port failure.

Mistral vibe uses python 3.12+ so i'm in the process of updating a number of mports to use allflavors so I'll have 3.12 versions of dependencies. It's taking some time. So I don't know if it works or not quite yet.

Default python is 3.11 on midnightbsd right now

here's an example of mistral vibe (on ubuntu) using their mistral medium 3.5 model calling a custom MCP server to analyze build logs.
