Last year, I was diving in Maui and I LITERALLY could not see the fish because I was thinking about Charlie Kirk hot takes on twitter
Since then, I left all social media. Now I can see the fish
I welcome reachouts and in-person hangs in berkeley - mcscope on discord/gmail
It's funny the amount of energy I put into asking people on first dates and swipin, when literally every single serious relationship I've ever had has been friends-to-lovers.
I love meeting friends siblings, it is like unlocking a hidden piece of their personality.
Ahhhh I see.. You are like THIS because she is like THAT.
What is this extremely mysterious neuron that set mechinterp going on a dead end for the last 3 years?
It's literally

interpretability might be the most important scientific problem in the world right now, as I don't think we can solve alignment if we don't know what we're building. I think I have good news about it. I co-authored early work in mechanistic interpretability at OpenAI and came away pessimistic, because neural networks appeared to fold into arbitrary tangled knots. years later, I started openai's first large-scale automated interpretability project, finding about 2% of neurons legible with the primitive tools we had
with modern agentic tools and a much closer look, the picture looks totally different. the vast majority in models up to trillions of parameters are legible, and their circuits beautiful. many famous examples of tangled neurons turned out to be misunderstood. The roadblocks I expected mostly aren't there. I now think ambitious interpretability will be solved by the time we need it most, and possibly quite soon, as automated scientists keep improving. it may be a bitter lesson for interpretability: the simple thing, at absurd scale, works

And for software developer - If you already had people hand-typing software, then it was useful to your business to pay X$ for Y amount of software in 2025, and devs in 2027 are 10x-100x more productive - arguably you could hire more!
Unless your software needs are very small
I think shit is going to be crazy, massive disruption waves in every industry, entire economy being remade, but I don't think we are going home at the end
Disbelieving the 'jobpocolypse':
Imagine a clinic - who could you replace?
The frontdesk person could already be replaced by booking software, yet they persist as admin / doorman fallacy.
The doctor is needed, the lab technician is needed, the nurse is needed.
Can't fire anyone
Noticing a trend in vibecoding, it seems extremely fast to make something that already exists (Put minecraft in this other game)... but making something genuinely new isn't fast - because the iterative process of discovering what works about the new thing is not sped up.
The strangeness of trying to join an industry where the people in that industry keep resigning in protest.
I feel a very strange sense of being more powerful than I've ever been, while also being strangely paralyzed.

Did someone tell this reporter that Lighthaven used to be an insane asylum? sfstandard.com/2026/09/29/be…
I'm hoping to make a career transition to the AI Safety research (Probably RE) in the next 6 months and am very open to reachouts about that.
