it's nice to celebrate the French revolutionary spirit & its ideals of liberté, égalité, & fraternité. still, when Haiti tried to realize the universal meaning of those ideals 1791–1804 it was ostracized & made to pay reparations for its freedom. liberalism always had its limits

The US admin wants to take advantage of the situation in Sudan the way it's taken advantage of the situation in DRC.
It stands by as its allies do the heavy lifting of razing, then swoops in as the usual wolf-in-savior's-clothing to pillage freely.

I wonder how some people find it so difficult to believe that their *government* can do something violent, destructive or heinous.
Why are you surprised? Are you really that naive?
Have you not suffered under their policies yourselves?
And these people are forced to choose dying inside a collapsing mine daily because the other option is dying from hunger / not being able to afford basic life necessities.
i dont think ppl grasp that the majority of mining done in Congo & Sudan is artisanal (& no that isnt a cutesy term for "boutique.") it means ppl (incl. children) w/ rudimentary tools & bare hands coming into contact w/ dangerous chemicals so ppl can have a laptop or a necklace.

Canada is home to roughly half of the world’s publicly listed mining and mineral exploration companies. In 2024, Canadian mining assets in Africa reached C$45.9 billion, spread across 106 companies. These figures underscore Canada’s substantial role in Africa’s extractive economy and raise important questions about corporate power, resource sovereignty, and neocolonial relations.
It’s time for Canada to deepen its relationship with Africa theglobeandmail.com/opinion/…
the UAE, Kenya, Egypt, the RSF & SAF are happy to get rich off of Sudan's gold. but when artisanal miners (who are how 80 % of the gold gets mined) try to make an honest living out of perilous work, they are bombed. the miners deserve to be more than collateral in this war...
with the way the literacy crisis is going, i'd sincerely hope for more performance art pieces like this <3
it's great that defections are weakening
the RSF...but, what does it do to an already belligerent military to invite former RSF into
its ranks w/o consequence? will the SAF actually return to its barracks when the war
is over? the writing is already on the wall #KeepEyesOnSudan
i love when a book or film's ending is good you have to go back & reread or rewatch the third act all over again immediately after finishing it
