Missing from the obituaries on the life of Gordon Moore, a giant of my field, were his achievements as an environmentalist. He may have been the single most important individual donor to the protection of the Amazon rainforest.

If you make a living from the computing industry, like I do, please consider following his example and donate to the one of the many wonderful organizations working to protect critical wildlife habitats, such as the Rainforest Trust.

Rainforest Trust and our partner, Associação de Pesquisa e Preservação de Ecossistemas Aquáticos (AQUASIS), are working to protect 1,231 acres of critical habitat in #Brazil—home to the Northern Tiger Cat and other threatened species.
Thank you for the kind shout-out, Mark.
So excited to listen to the new album of Bossa Nova from my friend and former boss @labarroso. Not many award-winning computer science luminaries who then go on to record music like this! beforebossa.com/
Saving the Brazilian Amazon is not impossible. The Rainforest Trust is one of the leading organizations committed to the preservation of this and other regions of critical importance for our planet.
In 2022, more than 1.7 million acres of the #BrazilianAmazon were deforested for cattle pasture, agriculture, logging and urbanization.
There's a real sense of urgency for the survivability of the Brazilian Amazon.

Fred Brooks was among the most influential computer scientists in history, but to me his greatest legacy is his understanding of engineering practice. What if the new computer could run the same unmodified software written for the old computer, he asked?......
