I'm old enough to remember when lesbians and gay men were accused of "recruiting" because we couldn't "reproduce". To see weak men use those same attacks on others in the LGBTQ+ community sickens me.
It's the trans groomers and the gender affirming medical professionals who are the homophobes. A listening ear, gentle exploration of the issues, choices and honest disclosure of the potential risks and consequences of choices is what young LGB people need. Too many young people who may have grown up as happy healthy well adjusted LGB adults are condemned to facing a life of sterility, inability to have normal intimate lives, disfigurement, endless complications, lifelong drug regimes and sometimes death.

Today, Russia expressed its thanks for the lifting of sanctions on diesel exports by dropping five glide bombs on residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia. As of now, sadly, twelve people have been confirmed killed, including three children. My condolences to all their families and loved ones. Another fourteen people have been injured, and two of them are in critical condition β the doctors are fighting to save their lives. The status of twelve more people who may have been there is still being verified. All emergency services are at the scene, and search-and-rescue operations are underway. Overnight, thirteen of our regions came under attack. Residential buildings, infrastructure, and railway facilities have been damaged.
Last night confirmed once again that in Russia, they take any easing of pressure to mean they can keep fighting, to mean they can keep dropping bombs on cities. Different signals are needed. Russia must understand that it needs to stop the war, and for that to happen, Russia must feel its losses. Right now, it is our long-range capabilities that are ensuring this. And we will respond to Russian strikes. I thank everyone who is helping.

Not surprising Jessica Grose's piece on how pissed off Republicans are about vouchers starts at a high school football game. Vouchers often transfer money from rural schools to suburban ones and that drains money from high school football and Friday Night lights.

Mamdani has been smart about reclaiming "quality of life" and "efficiency" from the right, and recognizing that a functional progressive city gov would provide these things.
The same is true of excellence in public education. Excellence is not a right-wing buzzword; it's part of the basic promise a city makes to its residents.

As a trans athlete and researcher I agree with James. Australia has case by case policies for trans athletes. We balance fairness, safety and inclusion. This is why Australia is leading the way in trans sports participation.
Denying the performance advantages between men and women or pre GAHT trans women and women does not help a single trans woman athlete.

Since the IOC has created a rule for trans athletes to compete in 2003, over 81,000 people have become Olympians. Out of those 81,000 Olympians a total of 2 have been trans women & one came dead last the other came 37th out of 42.

The Heritage Foundation β the same think tank that wrote Project 2025 β just published a report arguing that competitive women's sports should be scaled back and replaced with "group fitness classes, dance, yoga, recreational intramurals, hiking clubs, and the like."
Their stated reason? Fertility. They argue elite women's athletics make women less interested in having children.

The Heritage Foundation, the right-wing group behind Project 2025, has started targeting womenβs sports after helping to push the recent ban on trans women and girls participating in school sports in the US.
Scott Yenor, a Heritage Foundation senior research fellow and Boise State University political science professor, published a new report on 8 July titled βTitle IXβs Failed Experiment: Why Accommodating Sex Differences Beats Engineered Parityβ.
The report argues against more opportunities for female athletes or alternatives to those offered to male athletes, and claims that women would rather do yoga than play βcompetitive varsity sports.β
He goes on to target womenβs sports, or, as he calls them, βthe deeper feminist settlement that has governed athletics for decades,β and says that they have aimed to make women βmore independent and even dominant and less deferential and less oriented toward motherhood and traditional female graces.β
βTitle IX evolved from a seemingly modest anti-discrimination statute into a powerful engine of feminist social engineering, complete with proportionality mandates,β he continues.
Enacted in 1972, Title IX mandates that no one can be excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of or be subjected to discrimination under any government-funded education programme or activity, including school sports.
