Great share on the vision of our Agent Platform, and how we're enabling >35k agent sessions per day across coding & knowledge work @coinbase
Engineering Coinbase at scale takes orchestration.
CB Agent, our internal platform, brings specialized agents from across the company together to help our teams build and ship, drawing on everything we've learned across millions of PRs at Coinbase.
@rwitoff takes you behind the scenes.
Very similar sentiment @coinbase - We've been approached by every 3P in this space, all wanting to own the vertical layer of harness, model, cost, runtime, compute, sandboxes etc. While some offerings are REALLY high-quality, they just don't fit the way we work.
We built Toshi earlier this year, backed by our Agent Platform. There are so many benefits to owning the surface where teams do cross-tool work, and even more benefits when looking vertically at how we can encapsulate our context & model needs and give agents a powerful sandbox within our own infrastrcuture.
I maintain the mental model that every Agent deserves a company-laptop in the cloud, with native access to our systems via agentic identity. And perhaps its our culture of building here, but so much of how we organize at Coinbase revolves around internally-developed systems, so it just seems natural we've moved faster by choosing to build many of our well-used AI tools today.
And last, the numbers. Toshi is used daily by >2500 employees with a rich plugin/internal app ecosystem across Slack/API/CLI, and is deeply integrated w/ our context & artifact layers. Since launch, our developer & knowledge worker output has ~doubled alongside AI tokens, while costs have are steady and even decreasing for more complex work.
We own the harness, the context, the runtime, and the SaaS layer. I see amazing products coming online, and hope we can move some of our work to vendors where it makes sense, but broadly we have sophisticated tools in-use _today_.
(and yes we do need to write about this, look out for a eng blog share soon!)
At @tryramp, when we evaluated all of the options in the market last year, none of them met the quality and performance bars we have for our dev tooling.
We then built our own agent, Inspect. We put so much time and care in to it, because it’s a tool that we actually use ourselves. We’re not going to put up with bad tooling, and we’re definitely not going to make our beloved coworkers put up with it either.
We have 1100+ internal DAUs that give us incredible feedback and enable us to create a top tier tool.
We built it so others don’t have to.

no one was prepared for internal tools to become so cool
internal builders can suddenly give companies 100x unlocks with top-notch, fully integrated AI tools
this is one of the biggest perks of working at coinbase rn, our ai tooling is absolutely cracked and gets better daily
We see our home planet as a whole, lit up in spectacular blues and browns. A green aurora even lights up the atmosphere. That's us, together, watching as our astronauts make their journey to the Moon.

ALT A full disk image of Earth, as seen from the Orion capsule. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. From about 8 to 9 o'clock, a large brown landmass is Africa, with the Iberian peninsula twinkling with lights just where the planet curves. At the 1 o'clock spot, aurora glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space. Credit: NASA/Reid Weisman
Hey, I made this chart and this is what my team has been working on the last year.
Happy to share more thoughts about our strategy beyond LOC. While this is a super-simple metric to understand, it's not the only measure.
Turns out AI also causes a lot of devx pain 🧵
AI is simply another tool in the toolbox. In order to be effective, engineers need a stable platform for change management and are expected to own the code they produce.
I shared most of these thoughts in the attached post @brian_armstrong shared. We're excited to see engineers embrace AI in all parts of their daily workflow, and we're moving faster + safer than ever now thanks to this cultural shift 🚀

I love to see the @coinbase app be a React Native success story!
If you visit coinbase.com you're now using a server-rendered platform powered by @vite_js!
🚚 ~200kb module reduction
⚡️ 2x faster local + CI builds
👨💻 Instant reloads for engineers
📦 Enabling ESM very soon
We're now working on rolling Vite out to all of @coinbase
Shoutouts to the small group of engineers on my team who pulled this migration off AT SCALE 💪
If this type of work sounds interesting let me know! The App Infra team at Coinbase focuses entirely on Web + Mobile platform, tooling, and enabling quality UX 🪄
This is the kind of work enabled by folx at @coinbase like @bgoutham @willrobinson23 @jsteran @pankaj @maxbranzburg who focus daily on building the best platform to ship world-class products 💪

finding myself using chatgpt almost daily at work for things like:
- How do I do X in language Y
- What is a more optimal way to write X
- Explain Z to me
- What are 5 points about Y technology
I for one, welcome our plain-text personal robots

Last week we wrote how @peacock reduced app size & app launch after moving from RN to native
By beautiful chance, another streaming app did the same this week. Did the same effects occur? Well, yes, no & it depends
