The first I heard about the shooting in Oregon was from a US Senator demanding that my rights get stripped away.
For Democrats, these tragedies are nothing but opportunities, and they jump all over each other to be the first to take advantage of it.

"Universal" child care means more bureaucrats get champagne and caviar, while all families struggle a little bit more to pay for it. And it means sharp increases in horfific child abuse. You know this.

Rights cant protect you. Rights inform you which things must be defended to protect your life and well-being.
A big part of why everything goes to shit is people declaring rights and considering the job done.
Which human? Which animal? Matters to whom?
People keep asserting categorical value judgements without reference to a valuer as moral absolutes.

What's next? You gonna regulate how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop?
Individualism is not an ideology nor a choice, it is a fact. We are each separate and distinct consciousnesses. Every one of our ideas ours and only ours, even when many have considerable overlap with the ideas of others. Every goal is uniquely our own, even when some are compatible with the goals of others.
Collectivism is in fact impossible, and even attempting it starts with that impossible metaphysics, proceeds through aberrant epistemology, and culminates with ethical and moral atrocity. The denouement is that the survivors starve to death.
He says "not sufficient" as if there is some constraining relation between taxation and spending.
Government will always spend as much as it can get away with, even when (not if) it has to invent things to spend more on.
Government will always tax as much as it can get away with, even when (not if) they have to invent funding risks to things people care about.
In 1911, Wisconsin pioneered the income tax because a property tax on land was not sufficient when industrialization began producing most of the wealth.
Today, California is pioneering a billionaire tax to address a modern economy where wealth generation is concentrated in the hands of a few, with explosive asset appreciation that escapes ordinary taxation.
A billionaire tax is not class warfare or punitive, but an innovative economic solution for a changing economy.

Your loss. You'll remain ignorant of why everything around you is going to shit. You'll scream into the void demanding answers, never knowing they're in the bin at your feet.
If you support the execution, you're a hypocrite if you complain about being able to watch it. If you oppose the execution, you're a hypocrite if you choose the public display as the part to get upset about.
Rubio might as well have announced he was running for President in Athens the other day.
It was a hell of a apeech, and exactly the kind of "here's all the values I'm running on, and none of the promises" speech that people choose to announce a candidacy. It almost sounded more like an inauguration speech.
The values he laid out have not been articulated by any politician that I can remember in my lifetime. Definitely not by Trump.
He used the word "nationalism" in a positive way, but with plausible deniability about intending what it is normally taken to mean. In elaborating on that, he got at some truths about today's conditions that are undeniably true.
If he was aiming for "I'm not Trump, but I'm ready to build on what he started", he nailed it. The MAGA base, and if they're honest, the Republicans too, will eat this up. He scored huge points on that front, and I'll bet that if there are polls for POTUS nominee, he's at the top of them today.
Of course I'm not going to vote for him, or anybody else, but I did find the speech somewhat moving. Aside from the other N-word, it would be nice to believe there was a politician devoted to the values he laid out, and who would serve them in the ways impossible for a politician to ever do.
Will I root for him in 28 over the democrats? Yeah probably, because if I have to live with somebody in that office for four or eight years, sane and kinda evil is better than absolutely batshit insane and wholly and maliciously dedicated to evil.
Elections are decided by two things: which base turns out in better numbers, and who the NPCs think is going to win.
If you're a "thoughtful" or "conscientious" voter, your vote does not matter.
