Dear friends and followers. I, like so many before me, have decided to bail on X and move over to Bluesky. If anybody cares to follow me on that platform, or on Instagram, I would be most appreciative. For Bluesky @kupac1.bsky.social and for Instagram @danielbastaja Thank you. 馃檪
Lots of birds have hyphenated names but not many have double hyphenated names. Here's one of the latter... a juvenile Black-chested Buzzard-eagle (Geranoaetus melanoleucos). #BirdingArgentina #BirdsSeenin2024 #BirdsofPrey
White-throated Caracara (Phalcoboenus albogularis) at the Ushuaia landfill. #BirdingArgentina #BirdsSeenin2024 #BirdsofPrey
Three species of caracara in one frame! 馃槂馃憤 From left to right.. Chimango Caracara, Southern Crested Caracara, White-throated Caracara. This was at the Ushuaia landfill. #BirdingArgentina #BirdsofPrey
Ashy-headed Goose (Chloephaga poliocephala) at Tierra del Fuego National Park #BirdingArgentina #BirdsSeenin2024 #geese #wildgeese #waterfowl
In Tierra del Fuego National Park, this Culpeo or Andean Fox (Lycalopex culpaeus) came strolling past us just meters away. It didn't seem too concerned with our presence. It's big and not really a true fox, being more closely related to wolves and jackals. #Argentina
Tierra del Fuego National Park #Argentina An 8 km hike with lots of ups and downs left me soooo tired. But it was worth it. Great weather, spectacular scenery, lots of wildlife.

Birdwatchers flocked to a residential cu-de-sac after an ultra-rare species was spotted in Yorkshire for the first time.
The bird is believed to be a scarlet tanager, which arrived in Shelf, near Halifax, after being blown off course by strong winds from a hurricane in North America.
Another great bird from Tierra del Fuego National Park.. the Patagonian Sierra Finch (Phrygilus patagonicus). We called it the yellow junco, because it looks, acts and sounds like a junco. 馃槃 #BirdingArgentina #BirdsSeenin2024 #finches
The highlight of our trek through Tierra del Fuego National Park was this spectacular male Magellanic Woodpecker (Campephilus magellanicus). It posed for us for a good 2 minutes before it flew off. #BirdingArgentina #woodpeckers #WoodpeckerWednesday #BirdsSeenin2024
One more duck for today.. the Mullet Duck aka the Crested Duck (Lophonetta specularioides) #BirdingArgentina #BirdsSeenin2024 #ducks #waterfowl
No doubt about it.... this is my all-time favorite gull. The Dolphin Gull. Along the waterfront in downtown Ushuaia, they were all over the place with their outrageous beaks and feet. It looks like those appendages are made of plastic. 馃榾 #BirdingArgentina #gulls
A bit weird to see Magellanic Snipe (Gallinago magellanica) right next to a very busy major roadway near downtown Ushuaia. #BirdingArgentina #BirdsSeenin2024 #shorebirds #waders
