IBM releases Granite Switch 4.1: chat, decisions and speech from one endpoint.
The 8B and 30B models bundle all three capabilities in about the same VRAM as the base model alone.
Will one endpoint replace your model stack?

IBM released Granite Switch 4.1: 8B and 30B models that answer chat, make decisions and transcribe speech from a single endpoint. IBM says the bundled Guardian adapter beats Jev 1.13, Microsoft-Decision-1 and Clef-Flash on safety decisions, at roughly base-model VRAM.

IBM Granite Switch 4.1
Takeaway:

We're excited to announce the Steerability toolkit!
There are a ton of methods on steering out there but not a lot of cohesion in how they are built. One of our main goals with Steerability is to provide some structure to this space. We've spent a good amount of time designing abstractions that make sense. We also allow for steering methods to be composed into chained model operations (which we call steering pipelines).
The toolkit is compatible with PEFT/TRL (for training) and Inspect (for evals). We also provide support for steering via vLLM through vLLM-Hook (github.com/IBM/vLLM-Hook).
There are many more features that we're actively working on so keep an eye out.
Let us know what you think!

IBM Granite 4.2 with the full training recipe...
IBM just published a reasoning model family under Apache 2.0 with the full training recipe. Data mixture proportions, per stage hyperparameters, RL environments, chat template modes. Everyone else is releasing weights and calling it open.
Granite 4.2 comes in 3B, 8B, and 30B, pre trained from scratch on 15 trillion tokens with a five phase schedule out to 512K context, then post trained with multi stage RL. The 8B and 30B went through RL inside real software engineering, terminal, and web search environments. Every model exposes three modes through the chat template: thinking (default), non thinking, and a low effort setting with a short reasoning budget.
The bet: enterprises will pay a premium for a reasoning model they can actually reproduce, audit, and continue training. Not just "weights available" but "we handed you the manual." For regulated industries and sovereign deployments, that distinction is worth more than a benchmark point or two.
The unresolved question: which is the harder line for CIOs to cross in 2027, buying a closed reasoning model from a frontier lab, or standing up the internal MLOps to actually take advantage of a fully documented open one?
IBM Granite 4.2 is now available on Ollama.
3B, 8B, 30B parameter open models made for enterprise agents.
This model is free to use and is licensed for both research and commercial usage.
The data curation and training processes were specifically designed for enterprise scenarios and customization, incorporating governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) evaluations alongside IBM’s standard data clearance and document quality review procedures.
