Cambridge University should hang their heads in shame. This was an internal matter. I wonder how many plagiarism investigations have been carried out in the national press and media? Thinking of the friends and family Mr Arday at this time. – at Burntwood, England

The full UK State Pension is now worth around £12,548 a year. That's less than half the earnings of someone working full-time on the National Minimum Wage, despite many pensioners paying taxes and National Insurance for 40, 50 or even 60 years. Yet every time the Treasury needs money, the same voices appear demanding the Triple Lock be scrapped. Why? State pension spending is forecast at around £154 billion this year, but that supports over 13 million pensioners, many of whom rely on it as their primary income. Meanwhile, billions continue to disappear into failed projects, government waste, bureaucracy, consultants, quangos and policies that deliver little value to ordinary taxpayers. The Triple Lock isn't some gold-plated luxury. It exists because politicians allowed the State Pension to fall behind for decades. Even today, a full State Pension is barely above the poverty line and is nowhere near a typical working wage. If politicians want to save money, start with waste, inefficiency and failed spending programmes. Leave pensioners alone. They worked, they paid in, they built this country and they deserve dignity in retirement, not another raid on their income.

"For the past year, FIFA has leased an office on the 17th floor of New York’s Trump Tower that has sat all but empty. The rent goes to President Trump’s family business, but soccer officials say the space sits largely idle." nytimes.com/2026/06/09/world…

Someone posted this on Facebook...so true! Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table At which he's fed. Tax his work, Tax his pay, He works for peanuts Anyway! Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat. Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he Tries to think. Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find other ways To tax his ass. Tax all he has Then let him know That you won't be done Till he has no dough. When he screams and hollers; Then tax him some more, Tax him till He's good and sore. Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in Which he's laid. When he's gone, Do not relax, It's time to apply The inheritance tax. Accounts Receivable Tax Airline surcharge tax Airline Fuel Tax Airport Maintenance Tax Building Permit Tax Cigarette Tax Cooking Tax Corporate Income Tax Goods and Services Tax (GST) Death Tax Driving Permit Tax Environmental Tax (Fee) Excise Taxes Income Tax Fishing License Tax Food License Tax Petrol Tax (too much per litre) Gross Receipts Tax Health Tax Heating Tax Inheritance Tax Interest Tax Lighting Tax Liquor Tax Luxury Taxes Marriage License Tax Mortgage Tax Pension Tax Personal Income Tax Property Tax Poverty Tax Real Estate Tax Retail Sales Tax Service Charge Tax Telephone Tax Value Added Tax Vehicle License Registration Tax Vehicle Sales Tax Water Tax Tax (VAT) on Tax. And Now they want a blooming Carbon Tax! STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY? Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world... We had absolutely no national debt, had a large middle class,a huge manufacturing base, and Mum stayed home to raise the kids. What in the happened? Could it be the lying parasitic politicians wasting our money? Oh, and don't forget the relatively new bank charges.... And we all know what we think of Bankers. I hope this goes around the UK at least 1,000,000,000 times!!! YOU can help it get there!

Memo to BBC board: do not fold like ABC and CBS and Wall Street law firms when faced with Trump bully boy shakedown tactics. He does not to have a case, even in Florida. The Panorama splicing was a dumb mistake and the exec(s) responsible should have long ago been fired. There are serious issues in the BBC newsroom for the next DG to deal with but Tim Davie and the BBC board could make standing up to Trump and his $1bn lawsuit their finest hour

The NHS isn't just a healthcare system it's millions of tiny acts of humanity happening every single day. A nurse staying late. A porter cracking a joke. A doctor calling on their day off to check in. It's Britain at its best. #NHS

There will also be a very limited number of post-match services to get fans home once they arrive back into Sheffield. Which will have a significant impact on fans travelling to/from the fixture by train. 2/2

I am really grateful to my doctor for arranging a CT scan for me today. I was amazed to be told that my results will be sent through in 7 weeks. Also, "could I advise my doctor that I have attended"! – at Burntwood, England

As I write, this is at risk of being MASSIVELY overshadowed by events. But cabinet secretary Simon Case is meant to give evidence to #covidinquiry Thursday. Should have been last year but he was sick and only returned to work in January. Another long 🧵(sorry).

I can't believe that Rosenior has been sacked. Surely one to consider should Mowbray not return.

Like many millions of people my age, I have for over four decades paid PAYE, council tax, vehicle/road tax, stamp duty, VAT on my purchases, NHS contribution and the mandatory state pension contributions I've also paid capital gains tax, corporation tax, tax on business profits and many other contributions to allow our government, of whichever persuasion to distribute those funds in a meaningful manner to benefit the society I am part of. I do not use public transport, libraries, schools, an NHS dentist, I've never used a hospital, taken any benefits, kept my working hours low so that I could. Thankfully I have not needed the police, and I contributed to my elderly father's needs without using the state, I also paid for his funeral and my elderly aunt's funeral. So forgive me if I seemed exasperated when I see young people who have been educated Into their mid 20s, lived from family donations, gone into soft jobs, like journalism, the media, the arts, and then have the audacity to complain about elderly care and what a drain boomers have on society. We are the generation that didn't blow our disposable income on stag nights and parties lasting 4 days in Europe, adorn our bodies in expensive tattoos , go on the lash every weekend, using taxis between pubs use take aways multiple times in a week, spend money they don't have on film star level beauty treatments, gym memberships, clothes they can't afford whilst then coming cap in hand for Nana to cough up for a deposit on a house and expert her to organize and pay for her own funeral own funeral. You haven't lived long enough or contributed long enough to even understand how our of touch and unreasonable your claims about the elderly actually are.
