Dubai airports are bouncing back fast... over 1,140 flights handled in the last 84 hours across DXB and DWC, safely getting thousands of travelers to their destinations. Operations are now stabilising, and travel is gradually returning to normal, but it's unclear if passengers have regained the confidence to return. That might take some time.

Many services are moving to digital. It opens new possibilities for accessibility & engagement. It also surfaces barriers - digital exclusion, loss of informal connection & systems that used to be relational that now feel transactional. A key issue is how we make digital transformation people-centred, participatory, & inclusive:
1) Design for inclusion, not just efficiency: systems that work for everyone — including people with limited digital confidence, without reliable internet access &/or those who rely on face-to-face connection
2) Move beyond ‘broadcasting’ to participation: design for real-time collaboration, idea-sharing & feedback
3) Build digital spaces that strengthen relationships: not just replacing old ways of working, but creating new forms of connection
4) Rethink what digital transformation really means: not just automating existing structures, but challenging them & decentralising control

New Stanford study on how much leaders communicate & the impact it creates. 4 key conclusions:
1) Leaders are nearly 10X as likely to be criticised by their teams for under-communicating than for over-communicating
2) Leaders who under-communicate are seen as having less empathy & less leadership ability by their teams
3) Leaders are judged much more harshly by their teams for under-communicating than for over-communicating
4) Leaders should adjust their communication patterns by communicating more, even if it leads to the (relatively minor) risk of being seen as communicating too much:

Recruitment is a big driver in the NHS at the moment, but we are struggling to fill the gaps. Maybe we need to look upstream and invest more in existing staff to STOP people from leaving and creating gaps? Invest in current as well as future. It costs less in the long run!

Often an organisation needs big change, but good ideas (that leaders say they want) are impossible to implement. One of the biggest barriers is "social defense": a collective, hardly conscious, effort to preserve "traditions": structures, strategies & cultures. You cannot fight social defense with data or strong arguments. You have to show you care about what the traditions are trying to accomplish: hbr.org/2023/04/driving-orga… "Care for tradition can make change possible." By @gpetriglieri.
