“idle Vapourings of a Mind diseased” feels like a correct horse battery staple. “diseased mind idle vapourings”
unbelievably good wikipedia entry if you're looking to kill five minutes or so en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unparl…
我一開始還自以為聽得懂,一閉上眼睛不看字幕就沒輒了,看大家留言嘴砲大概是因為分不清白話上海話和上海腔的普通話之間界線在哪裡
X can be a real treasure trove of self-appointed China experts with zero credentials.
Imagine the arrogance of a Westerner copy-pasting some Wikipedia miscellanea and posting a comment about Song Qingling (Sun Yat-sen's wife) who "never mastered Mandarin", only because she spoke with a Shanghainese accent.
Here is a speech she gave in Mandarin in 1952 at the Peace Conference of the Asian and Pacific Regions.
What about Mao and Deng, and just about every top-ranking leader of that period of history, who also spoke in their strong regional accents ? Did they, too, never mastered Mandarin ?!

Let's just stop and ponder how impressive this really is for Europe: they have created a product that is demonstrably worse than Teams.
The European Commission has rolled out an alternative to Microsoft Teams.
But officials using it aren't impressed, with one describing the tool as “absolute shit.”

then i think about how you can’t not learn “kanji” if you’re learning chinese. real “i can’t eat mexican food everyday” type shi like bitch wtf do you think they eat in mexico everyday? they just call it food, and we just call it 字 <zì>
japanese literally has less sounds than korean, as a consequence there are way more sino-japanese homophones than there are sino-korean ones. if you wrote everything in kana, it gets really damn hard to read
This is a question for the Japanese: Why wasn't there a widespread movement to replace kanji with hiragana/katakana everywhere? The Koreans did the equivalent centuries ago with han'gul writing.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
日本における漢字廃止論や漢字制限論は150年以上前から存在し、前島密や福沢諭吉によって提唱された。第二次世界大戦後はGHQがローマ字化を計画するが実現せず、漢字を制限する目的で当用漢字が導入されたが、1979年に漢字変換が可能なワープロが発明されて以降は下火となっている。
なお、大韓民国において漢字が廃止されたのは1970年代からである。
