IBS is recruiting Early Career Directors—scientists, typically in their late 30s–early 40s, who are already creating a scientific direction of their own.
The scale is unusual: roughly US$1M/year at the early-career level, with start-up/equipment support.
ibs.re.kr/eng/sub04_10.do
, and mature IBS Centers can reach roughly US$3–5M/year, depending on scientific scope and evaluation.
This is not just another grant. It is a chance to build your own team, infrastructure, and long-term research program with substantial scientific autonomy.

Short Conditional Intron: We first introduced SCON in EMM (2022), applied it to mosaic genetics in Nat Comm (2024), and now show in NAR (2026) that it works broadly, from fish to mouse to human cells. doi.org/10.1093/nar/gkag480

This study first shows that, in gastric cancer, RTK–KRAS–MAPK activation drives WNT production via the TGFβ–SMAD pathway, allowing tumors to evolve toward microenvironment-independent, autonomously growing states. #Koo_Lab, #IBS_CGE

I am so happy to be part of EMBO. Europe has made many things possible throughout my career from postdoctoral training to senior faculty. Grateful supports from WT, ERC, OeAW and others. Fantastic collaborations with many friends! Truly miss my time there. Thank you all!
