I’m sorry but this ain’t applicable to African startups.
A startup isn't supposed to make money.
It's supposed to grow fast and maximize the odds of returning a multiple to its investors.
Once you take VC money, your job is to increase value, not generate profit. If a company in my portfolio is sitting on profits, I'm annoyed. That cash should be going back into growth.
If you own 100% of your company, do whatever you want with the profits. Pay yourself a dividend. Buy a boat. Your call.
With VC funding, it doesn't work that way. Dividends sometimes become acceptable after an IPO, long after anyone still calls the company a startup.
Profit isn't the goal, it's what's left when you've run out of better places to put the money.

We have raised a $550M Series E at an $8.8B valuation, led by Atreides.
Every major existing investor is back in, and we’re welcoming Baron Capital, Capital Group, Fidelity, Glade Brook and J.P. Morgan. We picked investors who think in decades. Several of them work with law firms and legal teams every day, so they can see where the work is heading.
Lawyers are moving from AI assistants to agents that do multi-step work. The money goes there. We’re growing our teams across North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific, and going deeper on the Legora aOS.
Thank you to the 1,000+ people at Legora, and to the 140,000 legal professionals who use what we build.
I say this a lot because I believe it: it’s the best time in history to be a lawyer. We're thankful to be a part of it.

Congrats to @MaxJunestrand, @siggelabor, and @WeAreLegora (W24) on their $550M Series E at an $8.8B valuation!
Legora’s agentic operating system is where more than 140,000 legal professionals and their AI agents do legal work together.
They went from $1 million to $100 million in ARR in under 18 months, and the next $100 million took less than six. The US, where Legora opened its first office in spring 2025, is now their largest market by revenue, with more than half of the AmLaw 50 as customers.

Honestly expected a bit more inspiration from a YC company... and the video could've used more polish so it doesn't scream "made with Opus 5.5" lol🤡
