A happy go nurse who committed her life to saving lives in the community was gang raped and killed as a reward. This is against humanity, this is against a noble profession, this is not Ghana. We demand an immediate #justice4RuthEshun #Nurses2020 #SupportNursesAndMidwives

Exactly a week ago today, NHIA launched the NHIS Faith and Wellness Drive at St. John the Baptist Parish in Pedu, Central Region. Here's why this matters. According to the 2021 census, over 71% of Ghanaians are Christian. Nearly 20% are Muslim. That means the single most consistent gathering point in this country, week after week, across every region, every income level, every age group, is not a market, not a school, not a hospital. It is a place of worship. If we are serious about reaching every Ghanaian with NHIS education, registration and renewal, we have to go where Ghanaians already are. And Ghanaians are in church. In the mosque. In their faith communities. The congregation at Pedu showed us exactly what's possible when you bring healthcare into those spaces. The reception was warm. The participation was real. This is just the beginning. 🇬🇭

Ghana must remain on high alert, esp at our porous borders and entry points. We must intensify simulations, refresher training, and rapid response preparedness. Our infectious disease centres must also be assessed and ready.

The #Ebola outbreak shld be a serious wake-up call. Ghana must remain on high alert, esp at our porous borders and entry points. We must intensify simulations, refresher training, and rapid response preparedness. Our infectious disease centres must also be assessed and ready.

The world is short 6 million nurses, tha is half of the global health worker shortage and a crisis we cannot ignore. Speaking to @SABCNews, ICN CEO @HowardCatton was clear: this isn’t just about training new nurses. Countries must invest in nursing education, faculty, support systems, and just as critically, retain the nurses they already have. The solution is clear: ➡️ Invest in nurses ➡️ Value nurses ➡️ Retain nurses ➡️ Empower nurses ICN and its National Nurses Associations members are taking this message straight to #WHA79 next week. Because without nurses, there is no health care.

PRESS RELEASE  FG LAUNCHES €4.2 MILLION INITIATIVE TO STRENGTHEN DISEASE SURVEILLANCE, EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS Abuja, Nigeria | May 12, 2026 — The Federal Government has launched the EU Support to Public Health Institutes in Nigeria (EUSPIN) initiative as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen disease surveillance, emergency preparedness, and institutional response systems across the country. The four-year €4.2 million initiative, launched in partnership with the European Union (EU) and the World Health Organization (WHO), is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to detect, report, and respond more effectively to disease outbreaks and other public health threats. Speaking at the official launch in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, described the initiative as a strategic intervention aligned with the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII) and the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration. According to the Minister, the initiative will help address existing surveillance and coordination gaps within the health sector by improving laboratory systems, enhancing data sharing and digital health capacity, strengthening collaboration across federal and state institutions, and supporting leadership development for public health personnel nationwide. He noted that the project comes at a critical time as Nigeria continues to respond to recurrent public health challenges, including outbreaks such as cholera and Lassa fever, alongside the growing burden of non-communicable diseases. “Health infrastructure alone cannot deliver effective healthcare outcomes without strong surveillance systems, coordinated emergency response mechanisms, reliable data, and resilient public health institutions,” Dr. Salako stated. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to building a resilient, people-centered health system capable of delivering equitable and quality healthcare for all Nigerians. The Minister further disclosed that the initiative aims to strengthen the core functions of selected public health institutions and support the training of up to 75 per cent of public health personnel in leadership and digital competencies critical to modern public health management. Speaking at the event, European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, Gautier Mignon, reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s health sector reform priorities through stronger public health systems and institutional partnerships. Similarly, the WHO Representative in Nigeria, Dr. Pavel Ursu, stated that strengthening national public health institutions remains critical to improving preparedness, early detection, and rapid response to health emergencies. The initiative will be implemented by WHO in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Ado Bako  Assistant Director, Information & Public Relations

Let's settle this once and for all #Benin 🇧🇯 won the most underrated country in #ishowspeed tour. Nobody was expecting us to have anything great to display. We are a lowkey country and we showcased our cultural, orderly and peaceful vibe. Then #Ghana 🇬🇭 won the best overall 😌
