The pro-Rejoin people are not engaging with how difficult it was for Britain to join in the first place.
It took over a decade -- with two vetoed applications -- and then Ted Heath had to do a massive sell-out on fish and the Commonwealth, which ended up destroying our fishing communities and (arguably) our relationship with the Commonwealth, to appease them. And that was when there were only 6 member states!
Now, with 27 members, each of them could plausibly act as a hold out, making huge demands on the UK.
One country could say the UK can't join unless they make *higher contributions* to the EU budget. Another could say that they want the UK to take *more* refugees. Others could demand Britain accept the euro. Others could say Britain must join Schengen. Spain might say, hand over Gibraltar. Ireland could say launch a border poll in Northern Ireland, etc etc.
It's a recipe for disaster. And will be such a drain on the attention of government, our politicians, civil servants, diplomats, negotiators, etc.
A point worth reflecting on. Britain has twice before been rejected from trying to join.
Would Le Pen, Meloni, or some other EU leader just flat out say she'd veto any British application? They certainly could do.
And then where does this leave the pro-Rejoin camp? Is this really how we want to spend the next decade in British politics?

That a man released from prison today should say on live TV that he will go and commit more crimes immediately to get put back in prison tells us two things:
1. He should never have been on the list to be released in the first place
2. Our prisons are not a deterrent to crime

"Hope comes from honesty" is such a nonsense, bullshit sentence.
A doctor being honest about a terminal illness, doesn't give the patient hope. It tells them they're dying.
Similarly, Labour telling the country that they're too incompetent to run the country and need Brussels to do it, isn't a message of hope. At all.
Andy Burnham is right that โhope comes from honestyโ.
Thatโs why Labour must make the case for rejoining the EU โฌ๏ธ

๐จ LABOUR BACKS PLANS TO FORCE EVERY HOUSEHOLD TO PAY THE BBC EVEN WITHOUT A TV!
Look at the desperate extortion scheme being cooked up in Westminster to rescue a dying state broadcaster.
A parliamentary committee has officially recommended replacing the 180 pound television licence with a compulsory household levy added directly onto your council tax or broadband bill.
Under this plan, you will be legally forced to fund the BBC even if you do not own a television set and never watch a single second of their programming.
Over half a million households cancelled their licences last year because the British public is sick to death of subsidising state propaganda and biased reporting.
In a free market, a failing media company goes bankrupt when customers walk away.
Under Andy Burnham and Lisa Nandy, the state simply forces you to pay for it under threat of criminal penalty.
Now connect the dots to their wider censorship agenda.
Labour is banning young people from social media, setting up a state information defence centre, and forcing internet providers to promote the very broadcaster you are being forced to fund.
The BBC has abandoned competing for audiences and has become a mandatory state church funded by an unavoidable poll tax.
Retweet this immediately to reject this broadband tax grab and demand the complete defunding of the BBC. ๐ฌ๐ง๐ฅ

The problem is the judges #74658
๐จJUST IN: A Jamaican migrant jailed for raping his wife and his sister has won the right to stay in Britain because he is bisexual.
โข The 51-year-old, granted anonymity as OB, came legally in 2003 and worked as a teacher. He was jailed for five years in 2013 for raping his wife and placed on the sex offendersโ register for life.
โข A year later he received 13 years for historical offences, including the attempted rape of a girl under 16 and the rape of his sister. The sentencing judge said he would keep minimising the crimes and had manipulated his family so they did not believe her.
โข The Home Office ordered deportation in 2018 and called him a danger to the community. He claimed asylum, saying he would be at risk in Jamaica as a bisexual man. A first-tier tribunal accepted he was bisexual but still ordered removal.
โข Upper Tribunal judge Joanna McWilliam overturned that under the European Convention on Human Rights, citing criminalisation of sex between men and a risk of mob violence.
โข She even admitted that there was โnothing positiveโ about his presence, that he still posed a risk to children, but that she has to let him stay under ECHR Article 3, which states โno one shall be subjected to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishmentโ.
โข Last month, judge Joanna McWilliam overturned the deportation of a Kenyan asylum seeker after she claimed she had been accused of witchcraft. She did not mention this in her first asylum application. The first judge who decided she should be deported said the accusation of witchcraft had been fabricated to "bolster an otherwise hopeless claim".

The rejoin campaigners have a serious problem ahead of them - they know that the increases in EU support in the UK are paper-thin and based on general fatigue and weariness with UK politics post-covid, and are actually nothing to do with wanting to be back in the EU itself.
They also know that the EU has changed significantly since 2016, that the opt-outs the UK secured in the 1970s would be gone, and the terms for rejoining completely unacceptable to the vast majority of the British people.
So they only have two options:
1. Lie about it and hope the EU goes along with the lie long enough, that the UK cannot reverse course
2. Try to go incrementally, rejoining by stealth, until the damage is done by the back door and the UK accepts defeat
We are seeing both of these strategies play out, right now, in both our mainstream press and in social media.

As frustrating as I know it is for all of us, the fact is that the reasons we voted to leave in 2016, are even more valid in 2026. So we are just going to have to tell them again.
