The journal Cognition – arguably the top journal in cognitive science – has published *ninety-nine* experimental philosophy papers Clearly, experimental philosophy is now very well integrated into the broader field of cognitive science
Ever wondered which journals have published the most x-phi over the last 25 years? Wonder no more! @rodrigodiazxphi and Max Bauer have scraped a bunch of PhilPapers data to find out the answer. See link 👇for our full blogpost xphi.net/2026/06/12/what-jou…

Is happiness a morally charged concept? Ceteris paribus, is the saint happier than the sinner? Diverging from the great work by @phillipsjs and @xphilosopher, @DanHaybron and I find that morality plays no role in the concept of happiness. OA in AJP: h1.nu/1r82v

Does monitoring AI systems ensure accountability? Does tracking and tracing guarantee meaningful human control? Our results show, inter alia, that the faith vested in the “human in the loop” / “on the loop” distinction is seriously exaggerated. Preprint: shorturl.at/qAtcN

What is the folk concept of FAKE NEWS? M. Kürthy & I ran some studies (N=1200), showing falsity and source deception (posturing as a reliable newspaper) increase fake-news classifications. Conservatism also plays a role. Preprint: bit.ly/4sLTe1J

Markus Kneer retweeted
researchers at Max Planck analyzed 280,000 transcripts of academic talks and presentations from YouTube they found that humans are increasingly using ChatGPT's favorite words in their spoken language. not in writing. in speech. "delve" usage up 48%. "adept" up 51%. and 58% of these usages showed no signs of reading from a script. we talk about model collapse when AI trains on AI output. this is model collapse, except the model is us.

New preprint: We tested 8 open-source LLMs for outcome bias in legal judgment. Unlike humans and older commercial models, they show little to no bias—but differ in baseline severity. Promising for AI-assisted debiasing, with caveats. Link: rb.gy/uyakoj

How to measure appropriate/calibrated trust in AI? To what extent does trust vested in AI vary across domains? And do people hold AI morally responsible? Our large study (N=1276) provides all the answers and great jokes: shorturl.at/7qVut #x-phi, #AI-ethics

We (@paul_henne, Kevin O'Neill and I) have a new short paper out on causal judgment and time, see Paul's thread. My favorite part: this plot showing that recent events are less 'stable' in people's minds, i.e. more likely to be replaced by counterfactual alternatives:
Sure thing! In a really nice article, Thanawala and Erb, investigated some features of double-prevention scenarios. (1/13) sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Our paper on the logic of guesses is now out (w/ @NeilBramley and Chris Lucas). We provide a new information-theoretic perspective on many phenomena (old and new) in judgment under uncertainty. 🧵

New paper for @FAccTConference '25: Should #AI & humans sometimes realize different values / pursue different actions in the same situation? We find they should, call this phenomenon “value forks” and discuss its implications for #alignment & #AIethics. shorturl.at/qoGgy
