Great morning talking about the complexity of the American Revolution. Did you know that @RetroReport has a video for that?!?!? “When is history happening” led to a lot of great questions & discussion in my 7th grade ELA class as we prepare for our revolution debate.
Loved sharing the new 9/11 @RetroReport video. My students were so engaged and asked so many amazing questions. Thankful for this organization & the resources they provide to educators. If we want the next generation to remember & care, we have to share the stories of that day.
So proud of my students for their work on the Podcasting Democracy program with @KQED. Especially proud of Maddox, Jonah, and Ben for their selection to appear on an episode of All Things Considered! @kedc_epic @KEDCGrants
You can listen to all my student podcasts by following this link: youthmedia.kqed.org/showcase
Thanks to @RetroReport for all the supplemental resources my students used as part of their work on this project.
Had a great week “digging” into local history with Pineville 4,5,6,7th graders as @bethhoward_30 and I collaborated on an archeological dig featuring our hometown & a look through its history! @KEDCGrants @kedc_epic
Spending a great day with my @kedc_epic @KEDCGrants people learning more about women’s history in America! My favorite type of day

Want stronger readers? Don’t sideline social studies. “Social studies teachers…build relevant background knowledge, weigh the credibility of sources…, read and analyze texts, and develop written or oral arguments in response to the questions….”

A great day presenting at @EducationKET Summer PD with @klmyates today. We shared strategies to help students engage with, develop questions about, and analyze a variety of texts and introduced a variety of free resources to support classroom and district instruction next year.
All this!
Tricia from @FordsEdu was the highlight of my @kedcgrants day! Not only did we explore activities that are relevant to the arts/theater, but the activities she shared are shaping the framework for my first week of school next year! Do not miss her at 9 am Friday!!!
Love when my worlds collide and today I got to attend a session with THE Tricia Patrick from @FordsEdu during my @KEDCGrants summer conference. It was such an engaging & intellectually stimulating 2 hours! I first learned about Ford’s during a KEDC cadre so a full circle moment!
Stories are at the center of history & the 2 sessions I attended this morning at our @KEDCGrants conference cemented that fact. Looking at the diary of Frances Peter & hearing stories from ordinary people across KY was so refreshing. I can’t wait to take these back to my class.
Daniel Boone’s story was brought to life this morning. Thanks @KEDCGrants for showcasing the important role Kentucky played in the history of our nation.

I love learning, but the best thing about @KEDCGrants conference may be the people & connections with other educators. #KEDCgrants
My friend Hope knocked her session out of the park today! I learned a ton about prohibition in KY and some ways to use some organizational tools to help my students compare and contrast different perspectives. #KEDCgrants @KEDCGrants @kedc_epic
My morning session at @KEDCGrants was so engaging! I loved learning about Mary Lincoln & reconnecting with Virgil Covington Jr. who had such an incredible impact on my students this year. Ended the morning learning how to use art to teach the Holocaust. #KEDCgrants
