AI agents are sending more and more code into review queues built for human-paced work.
A coding assistant can speed up code writing, but it can’t show you whether review, security checks, and release approvals can keep pace with all that extra code.
AI-native engineering is the practice of intentionally designing the engineering process so people and agents each do what they are best suited to. It starts with identifying delivery bottlenecks, then deciding how much autonomy agents should have and how to maintain control as you scale.

Get every merge request in front of the right reviewer, faster.
Most organizations do not lack capable reviewers. They lack a consistent way to get each merge request in front of the right one. With Recommend Reviewers Flow, now generally available in GitLab 19.5, GitLab recommends the best individual reviewer when you create a merge request, based on workload, time zone, availability, and expertise defined by approval rules and CODEOWNERS. The flow explains why it chose each reviewer and lets you assign them in one click, so reviews start sooner and review load spreads across every qualified engineer.

GitLab Secrets Manager is now generally available.
Built on OpenBao, it keeps build-time and runtime secrets under the permissions and audit trail that govern your code. Each secret reaches only the jobs that declare it and fall within its scope.

I recently sat down with Victor Rodrigues, VP of Customer Software Strategy, Architecture, and Systems at Cochlear, to talk about the software inside Cochlear's hearing implants.
Cochlear has used GitLab for 14 years, which keeps its work traceable and auditable. Now AI is changing how the team builds software. GitLab Duo cuts security scanning setup to ~30 minutes instead of two weeks, and Cochlear is testing GitLab Orbit to give AI more context across its large codebase.
Thanks, Victor, for the partnership and for sharing Cochlear's story.

I’m an adult in the same way a tomato is a fruit.
Technically, yes. But not really.
I hate prompt engineering!
how am i supposed to tell an AI what i want when i can’t even explain a haircut to my barber?
i end up looking like jim carrey in dumb & dumber every time.
Today marks my 2-year work anniversary @gitlab 🧡 ✨
Learning so much, looking forward to the new tasks! 🥳
