I need more people to make the connection between PH's lack of industrialization and the fact that we are an import-dependent & export-oriented economy

incidentally, this is the moral core of communism as i experience it. there is dignity and interest and complexity in all labour, and even the person sorting coloured glass from clear at the recycling plant deserves the opportunity to live a rich and full life
sometimes i feel like the thing that really motivates silicon valley types, at their core, is a resentment of the fact that ordinary unremarkable people are quite clever, and curious about the world around them, when allowed the time and given the opportunity to show it.

the fact that this video was filmed in Jabalia (northern Gaza) makes it a billion times worse. this is the area that held a heavy percentage of the genocide casualties and carries tens of thousands of unrecovered bodies. this is a crime scene being erased in front of our eyes.
Some IDF renovation work going on in Rafah, Gaza.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This video was not filmed in Rafah. It was filmed in Jabalia. x.com/briceleborgne/…

She writes letters of prayer to power lines, believing them to be angels. Wordlessly, they guide her through the ruins of civilization, offering protection from the machines that razed the earth. She hasn't seen another human in four years. Despite this, she has never felt alone.

Ecocide looks like this
Out of roughly 2 million olive trees in Gaza before October 2023, only 150,000 trees remain standing. This is a loss of roughly 85% to 90% of the region's olive groves. Ecocide is the deliberate, widespread destruction of natural ecosystems necessary to sustain human life. Many experts would agree that Israel's systematic destruction of Palestinian farmlands, aquifers, and trees would qualify as ecocide. Under international humanitarian law including the Geneva Conventions, any objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population like agricultural areas are granted special protections during conflict. Olive oil and table olives are crucial to Gaza's local agricultural economy, but in Palestinian culture, olive trees are much more than just a commodity. They are symbols of continuity, resilience, and attachment to the soil. Many groves are hundreds of years old and passed down through generations. Unlike annual crops like tomatoes or cucumbers that can be replanted and harvested in a single season, mature olive trees represent decades of invested capital. Losing them wipes out a reliable source of income for thousands of families, leaving them dependent on foreign aid.

Every winter I think about Khaleel and what he was trying to do to help unhoused and vulnerable citizens. Instead of hiring him as a consultant and contractor, the city wasted taxpayers' money suing him for violating ByLaws, and of course paid a white man to copy Khaleel's idea.
Khaleel Seivwright, a Black carpenter in Toronto, built free insulated mini shelters for homeless people so they could survive freezing winter nights. The small wooden structures are designed to stay warm using just body heat.
