Ten years ago today.
In just the last few days: Trump made a deal for the U.S. to buy Russian diesel, an economic lifeline for Putin; he and Elon Musk blamed each other for an order that slowed down Starlink satellite connectivity over Ukraine, hampering the country's defenses during a devastating Russian attack; and Trump waived sanctions on Russia that Congress, led by his late friend Lindsey Graham, had pushed for.
Now, Putin has proposed a summit with Trump and Xi to decide Ukraine’s fate for them, bulldoze a century of international cooperation, and frame Russia as an equal to the U.S. and China.
We’ll see if Putin’s puppet continues to dance on his strings.

It’s 2026; passenger rail shouldn’t just be a pipe dream. I’m working to make that a possibility for Wisconsinites who want to travel by train.

I hopped on the train from Chicago back home to Michigan. I break down why I’m focused on the idea that we should speed up trains between Chicago and Detroit, and Detroit to Toronto!
In Michigan we love our cars and driving, but taking the train is a great way to travel, and we can make it better.

Boomers have always been the most entitled generation in American history. Everything was handed to them, grew up during the best period of American history, and still they want more.
“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?”
Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

For too long, passenger rail has been a far-fetched dream in Wisconsin. Well, I’m proud to deliver funding with @GovEvers to help make it a reality.
Families deserve trains that get them to their destinations safely and support our businesses. And we’re one step closer to that.

Jared Huffman was an original co-sponsor of a bill with the worst permitting reform idea I've ever seen.
He wanted to use billions of dollars in taxpayer money to subsidize the non-profits and local governments that block energy infrastructure projects.
for the record, @JaredHuffman has not endorsed a single YIMBY bill in the CA state legislature, and has opposed literally every single permitting reform proposed in Congress since 2022, except for the one he authored that would make permitting HARDER

the two major abundance things I’ve been obsessed with for years, housing and energy, have been the subject of the two biggest federal bipartisan bills this Congress has passed or will pass, and yet people go around claiming abundance is dead lmao
New pod: IS ABUNDANCE DEAD?
In the last few months, I've seen many people—from Vox writers to antitrust folks to MAGA Republicans—say Yes.
But here are 5 things I've also seen:
1. The biggest federal housing law in decades passed—and it leaned into the supply-side logic of abundance, encouraging localities to accelerate and expand housing construction and also to liberalize zoning and permitting rules, while making it cheaper to build certain types of homes.
2. The most ambitious federal energy and permitting bill in decades has been written—and it also adopts the supply-side logic of abundance, by making it easier and faster to build various forms of energy, especially renewables via long-range transmission lines.
3. Dozens of state and local laws, from California to New York, make it easier and faster to build homes and energy. Some of which don't just embrace the ideas in abundance but literally put the word in their title (e.g., CA's "Abundant and Affordable Homes Near Transit Act").
4. Zohran Mamdani, the most successful and famous new left-wing elected in the country, explicitly embracing several abundance principles in residential development and surrounds his admin with abundance-pilled people on housing.
5. A new Build More agenda from the bipartisan Build America Caucus, which is almost certainly the closest thing to a literal "abundance agenda" that anybody has produced.
As @RepJoshHarder, co-chair of the Build America caucus, says on today's show, one could argue that abundance has "failed" as a name-checked ideological identity at the national level, inasmuch as you don't have people running for Senate making bumper stickers out of quotes from our book. But at the national, state, and local level, abundance is succeeding as a political framework, as a policy lens, and as a critique of the status quo.

Girl, why are you talking about this?!? The Wisconsin SoS has basically no power and does not control drivers licenses like other states. So why are we talking about this and giving perfect sound bites for Republican ads?
