Excited to share my lab’s latest preprint led by postdoc @YukiHaba_ and grad student Ryan Schwark. We surprisingly find that spontaneous behavior in isolation predicts a naked mole-rat’s identity, its colony membership, and even rank within its colony.

Can we design molecules that rewrite how organisms interact with the environment? I'm delighted to share our lab's latest work, where we use structural biology and chemistry to modulate insect behavior in a clade of destructive agricultural pests. Congrats Steve and team!

Imagine a superhero whose power is releasing an odor so strong their enemies stop fighting. For naked mole-rats, such power lies with the queen.

Our new paper is out in @Nature !
We uncovered how a naked mole-rat queen 👑 controls an entire colony: a natural contraceptive scent that suppresses reproduction in other females!
A remarkable mammalian parallel to bees and ants! 🐝🐜
