i work in film/commercial production in NYC, and EVERYONE i regularly crew w is slammed, booked, busy. tax incentives, more industries here (media, tech, commercial, editorial). way more hardy market than LA
I need to read up on why/how nyc’s production industry has suddenly revitalized - new stuff being filmed here every day, I know more folks getting jobs here than in LA

welcome to life kids, here’s your screen. you absolutely have to learn how to use this thing because your entire professional and social life will be plugged into it. just don’t get lost in the infinite addiction portal that is also on there for some reason haha ok kids have fun
This is an incredible project: NBC News asked parents to check their kids' YouTube history during school hours — and the results show kids are spending huge chunks of the day watching videos that have nothing to do with learning nbcnews.com/specials/hooked-…

I'm fascinated by the rise of frictionmaxxing as a response to a frictionless life. We engineer away inconvenience, only to discover that some of the friction we removed was part of what made life feel alive in the first place
Someone could probably write a book (if they haven’t already) about the cycle of technology productizing the removal of friction in the name of convenience only for us to discover that the friction was a load-bearing part of the social compact.

My take on this is she was putting up with him being slightly insufferable with the hope he was fine af. Then she saw his personality mixed w his mug and realized he had no excuse to be acting the way he was

Another casualty of AI psychosis. Listen to Matthew McConaughey read 6 minutes of Claude output pretending it’s his own words. He says “it’s not X it’s Y” like 10 times. No comment on the subject matter, but sad to see smart people letting themselves become meat proxies.

Edging implies a degree of free-time and so is inherently bourgeois. Cranking it is proletarian, the working man’s orgasm.

Cell phone addiction is an absolute thermonuke to the brain and nobody 'takes it seriously' because it is not clear that there is any solution in a world where the revealed preference of everyone across the globe, regardless of income, race, age, any factor whatsoever, would rather be on their phone than do *anything* else. Deciding "I use this too much" and meaningfully altering one's behaviour doesn't seem to have much success for any of the very small minority of people with the sentience or self-reflection to realize how bad it is. Most people seem to think of it as an unproductive habit at most, rather than an addiction. Any attempt to speak seriously about this is met with derision, accusations of pretentiousness. There is no real solution to it. The future of human cognition fifty years down the line is horrifying if you stop and think about it for even a moment.

I once got to meet Nathan Fielder in Los angeles 10 years ago. He was doing this show with Kyle Mooney where they showed their favorite YouTube videos to a live audience with commentary , all of which were offbeat and niche finds of course. Then everyone hung out on the patio. Really wonderful event. I love when boys show their Videos. Very simple, yet great idea, innately intimate. Living room hang-like. Date-like. There are so many artists who I’d happily attend this style event for. Showing their favorite reels, YouTube videos, posts. Can’t go wrong with that

My controversial opinion is that heavy drinking with coworkers (especially on work travel) is the only team building activity out there that does what all other team building activities purport to do
It was before my time so I have no idea but maybe the primary purpose of big office parties with lots of boozing was tacitly for the benefit of the young and single employees So when evil people made "meeting a mate at work" something frowned upon, it necessarily died
