It’s really sad shit like this is getting increasingly normalized in our industry. Even a year ago when this platform was full of this kind of commentary you could take solace in the fact it was rare on tech twitter. I can’t go 15 minutes without seeing a slur in comments

"The only thing that a reader can see is whether you brought new understanding. Any remaining credit is in how you communicate. The credit for coming up with the research is now shared across the entire field because the machines exploit all of our ideas at once. And in their thinking, mulling, and regurgitating they even forget where the ideas they used came from."

This is what I have been telling everyone who will listen. The most valuable thing the frontier labs can now do for crypto (and math more broadly) is publish their *negative* results. What ideas they tried, how much compute they used, and what obstacles they found.
Replying to @matthew_d_green
And specifically for cryptanalysts who are working with models and for the labs: Folks, what we need right now are *negative* results. Silence is the worst thing you could be publishing.

the transparency.‌dev summit started today, lots of interesting talks on (certificate|key|binary) transparency happening over the next three days! Sad I couldn't attend in person, fortunately it's being livestreamed

new post: the senior engineer death spiral sunilpai.dev/posts/the-senio… a friend just started a big job and asked for some advice. so I braindumped a monologue about a super common failure mode I see with engineers and posted it here, hope it helps whoever it can.
