It’s so very confusing that most parents, and many early childhood researchers, use the phrase “screen time” to mean “watching videos.” Good creative tools really get thrown out when people demonize the “screen”
My daughter is constantly creating– her passions include making art, writing fiction, coding interactive games, and composing music. Some might say my husband & I are terrible parents… because she does all these things on screens 1/

2 months before a presidential election seems like a bad time for AI video to suddenly get this good.

Sometimes I think about how one of my dad’s mantras is “just talk to people, you never know what you might learn” and his grandparents & parents, so his family wisdom more or less, were bankers in a small farming town. They made loan decisions based on gut impressions of people.

wild point about General Stores of nostalgia (pp 45-46). Small shop owners benefit a lot from racial hierarchy, which is why they’re (usually) so mean to Black people. And, in my limited experience of this rural & disappearing institution, it explains why they’re so nice to me.

Replying to @mdbarba
@mdbarba I was glad to see your piece on peaceful protest at the SF Israeli consulate. Surprised to see it say that “Demonstrators said they occupied the consulate's lobby to protest the ongoing war in Gaza.” Did they really?

@mdbarba In my experience most protestors don’t call this a war. A war is conflict between states. Palestine isn’t a state. Gaza isn’t a state. maybe they said they were protesting Israel’s treatment of Palestinians. Or occupation, or genocide (I’m sure some called it that!)

or it would have been more accurate to quote them as saying they were protesting Israel’s violent campaigns. Or apartheid. With “war,” it feels like the demonstrators are very misquoted.

The Israeli bombing of a refugee camp inside a designated safe zone is horrific. Israel has a duty to protect innocent civilians and Palestinians seeking shelter in Rafah have nowhere safe to go. Netanyahu’s assault of Rafah must stop. We need an immediate cease-fire.

it seems so weird that after over a week the US Ambassador to the UN STILL has not walked back the comment that we’re veto’ing ceasefire because the US is working toward a final solution. like.. WHAT? usun.usmission.gov/remarks-b…

I… uhhhhh… is this video AI-generated?
After vetoing a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza for the 4th time, the US Ambassador to the UN says the US "will continue to actively engage in the hard work of direct diplomacy on the ground until we reach a Final Solution.” Nearly 30,000 Palestinians have been killed in the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza, while 700,000 people are being starved in northern Gaza as Israel continues to block food and water from entry.

it is real! How has the US not addressed this yet!? It’s been a couple of days. Even working as an engineer I didn’t let colleagues say they sought a “final solution” eg when a design was iterating a lot. It’s not ambiguous what final solution means. whattttttt

"She doesn't have to imagine an integrated and multicultural Palestine - she remembers it"
I saw my Palestinian grandmother today—she’s older than the state of Israel. Expelled in 1948, made a refugee. She raised 8 children, born refugees in exile. She got sick with pneumonia last week and got out of the hospital today. All she wanted to talk about was the march in 1/
