Palm Springs Police Officers Lesley Zerebny, 27, and Jose "Gil" Vega, 63, were brutally gunned down in 2016 by John Hernandez Felix. Lesley had just returned to duty following maternity leave, having given birth to a daughter four months earlier. Vega was just months away from his retirement after nearly 30 years of service. A jury of his peers and a Riverside County judge convicted Felix and sentenced him to death. That’s how our justice system was supposed to work. Now, without even notifying victims’ families, Governor Newsom has commuted the death sentence for Felix and other evil violent criminals who juries and judges rightfully sentenced to death. That’s not justice for the victims. That’s not justice for Lesley and Gil.
Gavin Newsom’s decision to commute all California death sentences is a slap in the face to the families of victims who have already suffered unimaginable losses. It’s also an insult to the majority of Californians who have voted to impose the death penalty when individuals are convicted of committing the most horrific violent crimes. Newsom’s actions today are yet another shameful addition to his long list of soft-on-crime policies that put the rights of criminals ahead of the safey of California families.

I’m thankful @TheJusticeDept continues to make Chinese espionage a priority and act to protect our national security.
Two Men Sentenced for Acting as Agents of the People’s Republic of China: Defendants Facilitated Secret Cash Payments and Targeted U.S. Military Personnel on Behalf of the PRC’s Ministry of State Security
“Liren Lai and Yuance Chen operated in a long-running scheme to undermine U.S. national security by supporting Chinese intelligence operations and recruiting in the United States,” said Assistant Attorney General John A. Eisenberg. “Lai’s and Chen’s activities, undertaken at the direction of the PRC, were extensive and brazen. The National Security Division is committed to holding accountable anyone who aids or abets such espionage efforts.”

Rep. Ken Calvert retweeted
Our duty is readiness. Our focus is security. Our purpose is peace.
.@KenCalvert’s FY27 Defense bill raises troop pay, expands munitions production, fortifies weapons technology, and enhances industrial capacity.
It equips our forces to deter aggression and win when called.
It’s critical that California take every measure possible to eliminate fraud in the Medi-Cal program. We owe it taxpayers to verify payments to Medi-Cal providers and ensure all of our resources are being dedicated to the actual health care needs of Californians.
A recent California State Auditor report identified significant deficiencies in the state's management of Medi-Cal, including more than 26,000 high-risk providers whose billing practices had not been adequately reviewed. I've led a letter to the California Department of Health Care Services demanding answers about these findings and the steps being taken to investigate potentially improper payments, recover taxpayer dollars, and prevent future fraud. Medi-Cal provides critical care to millions of Californians, and every dollar lost to fraud is a dollar that is not available to help our most vulnerable citizens access the care they need.
The opening of the Freedom Bridge is a success story that resulted from working with Menifee city leaders to identify a funding need. Once I learned of it, I rolled up my sleeves and went to work in D.C. and secured the final $5 million to make the project a reality. I’ll always fight for my constituents!
In just the past few months I’ve helped secure $50 million in federal transportation funding to reduce traffic congestion on the 91 and 15 freeways. I will always fight to return your tax dollars to our region.
We have the finest fighting force in the world because of the extraordinary men and women who serve in our military. That’s why I fought for and delivered a historic pay raise for our troops that was signed into law.
I’ve been proud to support March Air Reserve Base as it undergoes a $250 million infrastructure modernization project to prepare for the arrival of the KC-46A Pegasus tankers. I have and will continue to support March and the critical role it plays in our national security.
By increasing gas taxes and making it harder to produce energy, California radicals have made gasoline more expensive than in any other state in the country. If that wasn't bad enough, now they want to tax Californians for every mile they drive. Families can't take any more!
As a former small business owner and Chamber member, I was thrilled to join the Corona Chamber of Commerce's Legislative Action dinner last night. It’s not easy to own and operate a business anywhere, let alone here in California. That’s why it’s critical for small business owners and organizations, like the Chamber, to stay engaged in the policy making arena.
I visited Lake Elsinore this week to see how the city is utilizing innovative nanobubbler technology to increase oxygen levels at the lake's bottom, improving water quality. I secured $8 million to expand the project, which will improve the environment and the local economy.
My friend @hughhewitt is absolutely correct. I do have an amazing staff! I’m grateful to have one of the most experienced staffs in all of Congress, which means my constituents benefit from having advocates help them cut through the bureaucracy to get the results they need.
Congratulations, @RadiantNuclear, on reaching this exciting milestone! Southern California is leading the way in innovative microreactors and driving the American nuclear renaissance.
Radiant has secured U.S. Department of Energy (@ENERGY) approval of its Documented Safety Analysis for Kaleidos, making it the only microreactor to be reviewed and approved by the DOE for full power operations.
The approval is not just for criticality, but for Radiant’s full power, full temperature testing at the Idaho National Laboratory. Radiant will test the complete reactor system using the same design it will manufacture at scale.
Next up in the path to commercialization: Readiness Review.
