So proud of this one. We are still far from understanding the impact of oral contraceptives on women’s health, but glad to be part of the research efforts focusing on female-specific health issues. This wouldn’t have been possible without amazing coauthors and @AHAScience funds.

Just when I thought nothing could top a seminar by Jane Reusch, she started using a ski pole as a slide pointer. I love this place (@CUAnschutz).

I have already spent $1000 on my abstract fee, registration, and flight to ADA. That doesn’t even include hotel or food. I’m not eligible for travel awards because it’s work from my PhD. Why academia?? Trainees shouldn’t have to personally finance career growth opportunities 😭

Nothing says welcome back from vacation like 3 grants due in 2 weeks, with 2 of them not started at all 😅

Having the opportunity to learn about the disease you’re researching from a clinical standpoint is truly invaluable. I have learned so many things I never would have from manuscripts or conferences. PhDs, if you can shadow multidisciplinary clinics focused in your area, DO IT!

Found out that my A0 NIDDK F32 application I submitted in Dec before starting my postdoc received an impact score of 30! I’m grateful that it was discussed by reviewers and for the help of my mentors, especially @cree_green! Hoping for helpful feedback and comments! 🙂

It’s been a while since I’ve been on here but I’m excited to share that in January I started my postdoc with @cree_green at @CUAnschutz and @ChildrensColo! I truly couldn’t ask for a more welcoming and collaborative environment. First OR today and more exciting research to come!!

I can’t believe my community nutrition rotation with Weighing In and @12345FitTastic at @ChildrensMercy is already over. I had a great experience with wonderful mentors and I encourage other dietetic interns to seek out unique community sites that align with their passions!

Spent the day writing planting and harvesting guides for the Children’s Mercy community garden volunteers and then walked to my backyard and put them to use! First veggie of the season! 🤗

Currently googling how to use the office coffee maker... yes, it's my first week here 😅

Spent my day observing the weight management clinic (PHIT) @ChildrensMercy and I absolutely cannot wait to continue learning from this talented interdisciplinary team as well as some pretty awesome kiddos. Safe to say week 1 of my dietetic internship is going well!

Thankful for these people and for COVID vaccines allowing us to gather and celebrate!!

My husband and family threw me a backyard graduation and it was just the best! Even more special was having my 89 year old grandpa hood me (who is still in academia mentoring graduate students). I’m so incredibly thankful 🥰

There's day before defense stress, and then there's day before defense stress plus an hour of calls with FedEx because yet another dissertation sample shipment has gone awry. Delivered and signed for, but not at the correct location and they don't know where... #everythingisfine

I know I’ve said this before but hopefully this time it’s true… took my last final exam today! 🤞🏻

Though necessary due to time constraints, punting entire months-long studies from my defense presentation is so hard!

I guess graduate school really is a nonstop series of curveballs, up until the very end. I was feeling pretty good after my written dissertation was approved for my defense, but then upon submission of my paperwork I was notified my committee doesn’t have the proper members 😭
