Those of you who know me know how very much this means to me. There's so much I could say about these last 6+ years on the academic job market, and maybe sometime I will. 2/3

Mahmoud Khalil’s arrest is an escalation in U.S. repression against the Palestine movement. But the response to his case has exposed a dangerous trap—one that risks undermining the fight against repression rather than strengthening it. A thread: 🧵

“Blanc’s dialectic of land and legitimacy suggests that in the Brazilian countryside, one’s sense of legitimacy was fundamentally tied to a particular relationship with land,” @Caiobarbo writes in a review of Jacob Blanc's recent book. shorturl.at/KjXnv

This week, NACLA published a review by @Caiobarbo of the Prestes Column and original reporting on femicide in Colombia and from @javibonilla on the Panama Canal. Check out this week's newsletter as well to find out what's going on in the region. nacla.salsalabs.org/feb_07_2…

If I edited a volume on carnival in Latin America, who would be interested?
This volume is intended to introduce students and unfamiliar readers to the distinct carnival celebrations of different communities in Latin America. Chapters should not be overly theoretical. 4-5k

What is our favorite anthro writing on the lasting impacts of ethnographic methods on the people/communities anthros study? What has helped you think about this in your own research?
I just can't stop thinking about how that guy really woke up and said, You know who I should use my writing skills to f*** over today? Disabled college students.
“A strange paradox: in his freshman year, my former student Caleb Hughes was required by Martin to read a book insisting that free society tolerates Nazi protests. A year after Caleb graduated, Martin had him arrested for pro-Palestinian protest.”
Great essay on how the “Palestine exception” is playing out locally.
