This Memorial Day hit different. I do not know if it is the year, the names, or just where I am in life. But I wanted to put my thoughts down. Take a read if you have a minute. open.substack.com/pub/devier…

“Gov. Stein gets it when he says serving changes everyone’s life — the service member and the family,” says Kirk deViere, chairman of the Cumberland Board of County Commissioners and a U.S. Army veteran. “And it’s fitting he made this announcement here in Cumberland County, right next to Fort Bragg, the center of the military universe.”

Newcomers to Cumberland County Board of Commissioners take control of the board and pick newly elected Kirk deViere to be chairman, over veteran Commissioner Marshall Faircloth. Also: Was a bipartisan coalition Read all about it: cityviewnc.com/stories/newly… #ncpol

Where is the accountability?? When I was in the senate I served on this oversight committee and there were major issues back then that never got fixed. Some in my party and caucus gave me a flack for asking the hard questions back then. $221M deficit ?? This is a leadership failure that hurts the people of N.C.

Early campaign ad spending in nc senate races reported by @_lucillesherman $5.6M by @MyNCSenate this early is unheard of. Always a big spend in the New Hanover seat but interesting to see the spend in SD18 - must see a potential pickup seat without @Bode4Senate running for that seat and now a toss up district. axios.com/local/raleigh/2024…

Proud to have served with @JamesPerryNC in the NC Senate. Even prouder to call him my friend. The people lost a common sense champion in the senate today. We may not have always agreed on policy but “good people can disagree”. I knew from his first day in the senate that we would form a trust and friendship that goes outside the walls of the chamber and any partisan lines.
State Sen. @JamesPerryNC has resigned — six months before his term is up — after opting not to run for reelection this year. #ncpol

“Always show up for your friends”. Yesterday was my first time back on the NC Senate floor since leaving office in Dec of 2022. Back to support my friend and former colleague Senator @JamesPerryNC who made some farewell comments at the close of session.

While we never served together in the senate I saw your commitment, hard work, and passion for the people in your district and state. Your district and so many others in our state will lose an incredible advocate. Wishing you “fair winds and calm seas” in this next chapter.
