The Nazi guards never heard the baby crying inside her toolbox. If they had, 2,500 children would have died. In 1942, a 32-year-old Polish social worker named Irena Sendler walked into the Warsaw Ghetto carrying a simple toolbox. She had a permit to check for typhus outbreaks. The guards waved her through. Hidden beneath the wrenches and rags was a six-month-old baby. She walked past armed soldiers and handed the child to a Polish family waiting outside the walls. The next morning she walked back in and did it again. For three years Irena smuggled approximately 2,500 Jewish children out of the Warsaw Ghetto. She hid infants in toolboxes, sedated children and smuggled them in coffins, concealed them in ambulances under stretchers, and used sewer pipes. Every child received a new Polish name. Irena recorded everything—real names, new names, locations—on tissue paper sealed in glass jars and buried in a friend’s garden. By October 1943 the Gestapo caught her. They tortured her, broke both her legs and both her feet, and beat her unconscious. She gave them nothing. After months they sentenced her to death. The night before her execution, the underground bribed a guard. He led her out and recorded her as “executed.” She went immediately back to work and continued until the war ended. When the war ended she dug up the jars and spent months trying to reunite children with families. Most parents had died in the camps. For decades almost no one knew about her. Then in 1999 four teenage girls in Kansas found a brief mention of a woman who had saved 2,500 children. They researched and wrote a play. At age 89 Irena Sendler became famous. She was honored by Pope John Paul II and nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. She died in 2008 at age 98. One estimate suggests those 2,500 rescued children produced approximately 6,000 descendants. She was a social worker with a permit and a toolbox. She walked into hell every day for three years and walked out carrying children. The Nazis broke her legs. They couldn’t break her will.

26 years ago TODAY. October 12, 2000. Vadim Norzhich and Yossi Avrahami, two Israeli reservists who accidentally entered Ramallah, were brutally lynched by a Palestinian mob inside a police station. One of their murderers proudly stood at the window, displaying his BLOOD-SOAKED HANDS to a cheering crowd. That image is burned into my brain FOREVER when I realized what it was. Now take a look at that RED HAND PIN worn by some of your favorite Hollywood actors and singers. Mark Ruffalo. Billie Eilish. And plenty of others. They call it a symbol of peace, can you imagine that? But for the normal educated people who remember what happened on October 12, 2000, those red hands bring back something VERY different. Remember Vadim Norzhich and Yossi Avrahami. May their memories forever be a blessing. 🎗️

🇮🇱 HEROES OF OCTOBER 7 🇮🇱 HE ESCAPED. THEN HE TURNED BACK. Master Sgt. Ori Danino was already out. When Palestinian Hamas terrorists attacked the Nova music festival, Ori and his friend Tomer managed to escape the killing grounds. But Ori knew that three young people he had met only one day earlier were still trapped inside: siblings Maya and Itay Regev and their friend Omer Shem Tov. His friends begged him not to return. Ori turned the car around anyway. He found Maya, Itay and Omer, but as they tried to escape together, terrorists opened fire. Ori, Maya and Itay were wounded. All four were kidnapped and dragged into Gaza. Maya and Itay were freed in November 2023. Omer finally came home in February 2025. “Ori, it’s because of you that I’m here,” Omer later wrote. Ori never made it home. After surviving 11 months in captivity, he was murdered by his Palestinian Hamas captors inside a tunnel beneath Rafah, alongside Carmel Gat, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Alex Lobanov and Almog Sarusi. Ori was only 25. He was a Paratroopers Brigade signals officer who loved nature, surfing, music, cooking and really good coffee. He planned to study electrical engineering. He and his girlfriend, Liel, were preparing to look for an apartment together. He had an entire future waiting for him. But when other lives were in danger, Ori placed them before his own. Some people run from terror. Ori escaped, looked back and returned to save people he had known for less than 24 hours. That is courage. That is Israel. May Ori Danino’s memory forever be a blessing. 🕯️🇮🇱 📣 Share, so the world will know why Israel had to win a war they never started. #HeroesOfOctober7 #OriDanino #NovaFestival #Israel #NeverForget

Three years ago today, a Palestinian terrorist army from Gaza abducted Shiri Bibas and her babies Kfir and Ariel. The terrorists murdered them with their bare hands. They mutilated the bodies to cover it up. They handed their remains back in a barbaric public parade, in mislabeled, locked coffins. And they sent back a random Palestinian woman instead of the children's mother. October 7 opened a portal into the depths of pure evil. We all peered inside it. And we are forever changed.

A powerful message from British-Israeli Emily Damari, who survived 471 days in Hamas captivity in Gaza, shared on Simchat Torah 2026. Three years ago, on Simchat Torah, October 7, 2023, Emily was kidnapped into Gaza during the Hamas massacre in southern Israel. “Three years ago, at this very hour on Simchat Torah, I was deep, deep inside the Gaza Strip. I was kidnapped together with the best friend I could ever have asked for, Gali Berman, who came to be with me during the most terrifying moments of my life. The moments when I rediscovered the meaning of the phrase “scared to death.” The photos… Location: Shifa Hospital, in the hands of the terrorists I will never forget. I’m inside a disgusting room full of blood, with a body lying on the floor next to me, a “doctor” approaches and introduces himself as “Dr. Hamas,” while beside him are ten more monsters, with a Kalashnikov pointed at my head, and all I’m just praying to G-d to protect me in this situation. Anyone who understands even a little about medicine can tell from the photos that the fact that I’m here today is nothing short of a miracle… For four months, my leg continued to bleed inside Gaza with an open gunshot wound, stitches that are supposed to be removed after 14 days remained in my hand for 365 days. And here I am. Thank you to the Holy One, blessed be He, thank you to my family, thank you to the security forces for a true miracle, thank you that I survived the worst imaginable with the help of everyone who was there with me, and especially the one and only Romi Gonen! And thank you to the dear people of Israel, who never stopped fighting for us for even a moment, so that we could return to you, hug you, share with you, and heal together with you forever. I love you all, and more than anything, I love life. Simchat Torah 5787. 🇮🇱💙”

I’ve just finished Fauda and I was absolutely hooked. Yes, I know what some of you are going to say: “Israeli propaganda.” Maybe it inevitably reflects an Israeli perspective. But as somebody watching from Britain, it gave me a much better insight into the fear, hatred, history and sheer complexity of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict than I had before. And one thing kept frustrating me throughout. Again and again you’re watching Hamas and other armed groups planning attacks while the Israeli operatives are trying to identify the people behind them and stop those attacks before Israelis are killed. Obviously it’s a drama. It isn’t a documentary and I’m not pretending it gives you the entire history of the conflict or the Palestinian perspective. But it did make me understand something more clearly: what it must feel like to live in a country where preventing the next terrorist attack is an everyday security concern. Then I got to Season 5. The October 7 episodes were fucking harrowing. Watching families hiding inside their homes. Parents desperately trying to protect their children. Homes attacked and burned. Civilians murdered. The depiction of women being subjected to horrific violence. Knowing that October 7 itself wasn’t fiction made those episodes incredibly difficult to watch. And whatever your politics on Israel or Gaza, the deliberate murder, abduction and sexual violence inflicted upon civilians that day was barbaric. There is no political cause that makes that acceptable. It also made me think about Britain. Watching armed terrorists moving through ordinary communities and attacking people in their homes genuinely terrified me. Because we spend so much time arguing about terrorism, extremism, borders and national security as abstract political issues that it’s easy to forget what a successful terrorist attack actually looks like for the ordinary families caught in it. Fauda hasn’t made me think I suddenly understand the entire Middle East after watching a Netflix series. Quite the opposite. It’s made me realise how much I DON’T know. But it has made me understand the Israeli experience and its obsession with security considerably better. And if a television drama leaves you wanting to read more, question more and understand a conflict beyond the slogans we’re all fed on social media, I’d say it’s done something worthwhile. Brilliant television. Absolutely gripping. And Season 5 genuinely stayed with me. Have you watched it? Keen to hear people’s thoughts on this great show.
