Many times, on this platform people use it as a place to promote their liberal or conservative tribe views, relentlessly attack or create gotcha moments. There is no real dialogue. So, I appreciate the thought in your reply. A couple of things to understand, America’s leadership over the past 50 to 75 years has created this global economy that people value. Ever since World War II, America led the way, they sought trade, spreading democracy, ideas of freedom, and it’s funny, how much of the world for decades embraced this America, including Canada. Trade has allowed countries and companies around the world to prosper and grow. Hundreds of millions have been brought out of poverty. In many respects it’s a good thing. Corporations embraced this too and have profited massively. Today you have tens of thousands of multi-national corporations (many are American) who have created enormous wealth that feeds not only American jobs and the American economy, but also global jobs and global strength. In terms of permission, no one is telling America what to do, how to govern or how to trade, and Mark Carney has said it correctly, America has changed. Nothing we can do about that. And I would say to you, that your comment about permission should be reciprocal. Trump’s constant comments about annexing Canada, 51ststate, referring to Prime Minister as Governor, those hit a nerve for Canadians. You might call it trolling and you’ve read, The Art of the Deal, you’ll know they are a big part of Trump’s playbook for negotiation. But for Canadians, those comments and many others are about someone trying to take our permission away. We’re proud too. Canada is a proud nation and if we do feel our sovereignty is being threatened in dealing with this administration. We’ll protect ourselves as best we can. We know America is much bigger than us, so it’s hard. But we will figure it out.

Alberta voters have overwhelmingly chosen a stronger, more prosperous future for their province by remaining in Canada. I’m thrilled by the decisive support Albertans have shown for the country we all love. Now it’s up to the rest of Canada to deliver on our commitment to Alberta by building new pipelines, unlocking our natural resources and unleashing the prosperity that will protect the future of Canadians from coast to coast to coast.

Police cannot solve addiction, mental health crises, poverty, or homelessness through enforcement. You know what actually addresses these issues? Affordable housing. Universal healthcare, including mental health and addiction services. Free access to education. Living wages. When people have their basic needs met, we build healthier, happier, and safer communities. Want safer streets? Start by building a society where people aren't struggling just to survive.
My rough assessment of BC municipal election results: The cities being *most* ruined by street disorder and anarchy enthusiastically begged for more.

powerful words from Jason Kenney here: "I ask people as they're considering voting, put their minds forward to November 11th [and] the sacrifices of Albertans who lie below gravestones with the maple leaf on them. We do not have the right to rupture what they built and what they sacrificed for."

There is a fundamental divide here: The Trump Administration has the mindset of a thief. They want to steal what others have without fair compensation. By contrast, Canada and Mexico have the mindset of traders, seeking to trade value for value.

Thank you.
I cast my vote already for the referendum via mail-in ballot. No to all of the nine questions and yes to remaining with Canada. I don’t usually feel compelled to express how I vote but this is important to me. Proudly Albertan, fiercely Canadian. 🇨🇦

U.S. President Donald Trump and his political allies want Canada to be weakened so it is easier to take. Stripping Canada of our sovereignty and our natural resources is difficult to do when our territory and population are unified. But a Canada without Quebec, Alberta, and Saskatchewan would be ripe for the plucking, as would those individual jurisdictions, with each part lacking the heft, either economically or in terms of population, to withstand U.S. pressure.

Zohran Mamdani: “I believe there must be room to mourn every single life. There must be room to mourn the lives of the more than 1,100 Israelis that Hamas killed three years ago. There must be room to mourn the 74K Palestinians the Israeli government had killed since. What I so appreciated about being at the vigil yesterday evening, as I had been the year before, is that it was a vigil that brought together New Yorkers to read testimonies of their own family members, of others who’ve been killed either on the day or in the genocide since and ends with a shared vision for peace and for an end to the genocide”

I am angry tonight. Because today ICE shot a New Yorker. They shot a New Yorker while his five year old child was in the car. ICE makes this city less safe. We want them out. Now.

Put American food next to its European twin and you begin to wonder whether they are the same species. The fries are pale and identical, the bread is essentially cake, the Fanta glows like a warning light, the cheese is the colour of a traffic cone, the sweets and the cereal come in shades not found in nature, and the chicken has been given a chemical bath on its way out of the factory. The reason is wonderfully simple. In Europe a manufacturer must prove an ingredient is safe before it goes anywhere near your mouth, whereas in America it goes in first and stays there until somebody proves it is killing people. Which may explain why only about seven percent of American adults are in good cardiometabolic health, and why, after a life spent sitting in a car in order to reach a chair, they die years earlier than Europeans. Europe treats its citizens as people to be kept alive, and not as a revenue stream with a pulse.
Why are these really like this @grok

The people on here who resort to body-shaming & slurs just to insult me are truly pathetic. It makes them look intellectually bankrupt [or utterly childish]. Instead of offering a smart critique of my post, they hurl insults. The moment you use disrespect, you lose the argument✌️

Marco Rubio has announced that Europe may yet awaken from its long slumber and rekindle the fire lit here millennia ago. It is a remarkable thing to hear from the representative of a country that has just sailed past 40 trillion dollars in debt and now spends more on interest than on its own military. One wonders what exactly we slept through. While dozing, Europeans somehow arranged to live several years longer than Americans, to see a doctor without remortgaging the house, and to take August off. Six of the seven happiest countries on earth are European, according to this year's World Happiness Report, and the United States is 23rd. So thank you, Mr Secretary, for the wake-up call. If the generational shift you are hoping for means tariffs struck down in court, bond yields at their highest since 2007 and a government that insults its allies for sport, we would rather stay in bed.

Good morning from the shores of Lake Ontario. 🇨🇦☀️ Toronto is waking up in gold, the first light spilling across the lake, the skyline coming to life, and the CN Tower standing watch over it all. It’s Monday, so grab the coffee and get to work. ☕️ Apparently Canada’s Monday to-do list is: ✅ Diversify trade ✅ Build new export routes ✅ Strengthen Canadian unity ✅ Become less dependent on the U.S. ✅ Thank Trump for accidentally helping with all four. 😉 Good morning, Toronto. Good morning, Canada. 🇨🇦❤️
