As an American who has lived in Europe for more than 25 years, I meet this type of hopeful newcomer a lot. They assume they'll get everything they have in the US *plus* everything available in Europe. But the systems often contradict each other, economically and culturally.
The internet told them Europe was a social paradise. Turns out the trains are awful, the health care isnโt free, and people can be really mean. buff.ly/5cLtnha
For example, our "free" (taxpayer-paid) public health care in Denmark is very reactive: you go to the doctor when you're sick. There's very little preventative care, like an annual physical, and you can't order up, say, a blood test just because you think it's a good idea.

Not a Catholic, but I'm enjoying this book, even though it's written in that very simple, 4th grade vocabulary, NPR style. (Both of the authors are NPR journalists).
Pope Leo is from Chicago, near where I grew up, and he seems like the right man 1/2

Love this idea. When I work with kids, I find they're fascinated by space and tech (along with sharks and dinosaurs). Now all we need is a pop-up version of these books. Can't beat a pop-up.
my kids keep hearing about Palmer and the boys.
went looking for childrenโs books they could read to learn about how these guys locked in and what they're working on now. but it's all outdated content mill slop or woke anti-tech propaganda.
so we did some research with @grok and made our own this weekend. now getting a few copies printed so they can take to school.
want the PDFs? let me know

I hid Easter eggs in ALT text, video descriptions, and social media posts to see if they would turn up in AI results. Here's what happened.
Fun experiment I did, hiding bits of information in social media posts to see if they turned up in AI results. Several did, but one AI service also insisted I liked anchovies on pizza, which I do not.

I just landed in Copenhagen for my dad's 70th birthday (!), so wanted to cover a fascinating European airline...
Four years ago, SAS filed for bankruptcy.
Now it is profitable, ranks No. 3 globally for punctuality and is buying 69 aircraft.
It cut costs, left the alliance it helped found and stopped pretending Scandinavia needed three equal hubs.
Hereโs how it rebuilt the airline around CPH.

This is top-quality satire. Comedy is not dead, it just went online. Catchy song, too.
For people who don't follow the AI industry, the "singer" here is Dario Amodei, the man behind Claude, who has spearheaded a PR campaign about AI getting out of control.

In case anyone is wondering what #Greenland is all about.
ARoS museum in Aarhus is best known โYour Rainbow Panoramaโ, a circular rainbow-colored glass walkway on the roof, but now crowds are turning out for โAs Seen From Below โ The Domeโ an underground exhibit with in the form of a dome with a hole in the top. 1/
After arriving in the dome, youโll take a seat and see that dayโs sky through the hole, in whatever color the weather presents it - blue, grey, black. But a few times per day, the hole is slowly covered by a sliding circular door, a bit like an eclipse, and 2/
As a dual citizen of the US and DK, happy to see this stress between the two countries come off the table. Denmark can't defend Greenland, so now the the US will do it, while Denmark retains sovereignty. Looks like a win-win, except maybe for Danish taxpayers.
