Alberta separatists spent months telling Canada they spoke for Albertans.
Then Albertans spoke.
76% voted to stay in Canada. The separatists couldn’t even get a quarter of the vote for another referendum.
Turns out a few thousand angry guys with flags and Facebook accounts aren’t quite the national liberation movement they imagined.
And they’re already promising to keep fighting.
Apparently listening to Albertans was never part of the plan.

This actually made me tear up, because this is just such a beautifully appropriate response, thank you. I am so grateful to all of the First Nations people who voted in incredible numbers in Alberta and to Nenshi for acknowledging this.

Avi Lewis: "The entire process was unnecessary. Nobody asked for it. Danielle Smith's career has been defined by a slow walk towards separation. All of the questions are designed to stoke division in Alberta, and she is the one who is responsible for that."

The Washington Post reports that a group of American national security officials is quietly advising state authorities and members of Congress on how to prepare for possible Trump administration interference in November’s midterm elections.
Officials are examining scenarios involving federal agents, military deployments and disruption of voting.
The extraordinary development is that American institutions are preparing for potential interference from their own government.

🚨 NEW: U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has yet to approve the transfer of a "significant" batch of Patriot interceptors for Ukraine, sources say.
"It's hard to call this a 'monthly supply,' because there's no set amount of how much you need for a month," a senior Ukrainian official says. "But it's significant."
Some in Kyiv suspect Washington is holding the missiles back on purpose to pressure Ukraine, as Russia keeps striking Ukrainian cities.

Danielle Smith deserves to be fired for this totally useless waste of time and money. It did nothing but divide people, stifle the economy and embarrass us internationally.

Even atheists are praying for you. You are a good man. Please get well.
I would like to thank all those who have prayed for me in recent days. I wish to express my particular gratitude to the doctors, nurses and all the staff of the Gemelli Hospital. This experience has made me feel particularly close to all those who are living with illness or infirmity. Now that I have overcome this delicate phase I will gradually resume my activities, always with God’s help and your prayers.

The end of municipal democracy in Ontario.
Ford appoints his cronie as Chair of Muskoka Region.
Ford has stripped the people of Muskoka, Peel, York, Halton, Niagara, Durham, Waterloo, and Simcoe County of the right to elect a Regional Council Chair in next week's election.
Instead, he will appoint the Chairs—who will be able to force through decisions even if 2/3rds of elected Councillors vote against them.

NEW: The Ford government is expected to name Conservative MP Scott Aitchison as Muskoka’s first “strong chair,” @readpolicorner has learned.
Aitchison announced late last month that he would leave federal politics to “explore new opportunities.”

Complicity in Slaughter: Outrage Explodes as Reports Link Musk and Trump to Ukraine Drone Shield Crippling
Demands are rapidly intensifying for Donald Trump and far-right disinformation propagandist Elon Musk to face international war crimes charges following a catastrophic disruption to Ukraine's frontline defenses.
A devastating exposé by The Telegraph, citing four anonymous sources, reveals a shocking level of complicity: it was Elon Musk who personally approached Donald Trump with the proposal to throttle Starshield — the military-grade version of his Starlink satellite network. Trump reportedly agreed to the scheme.
By deliberately crippling Ukraine's drone defense systems, this calculated move effectively disabled the country's shield against Russian aggression. The sabotage directly allowed Vladimir Putin's forces to rain lethal drone strikes down upon undefended cities, resulting in the brutal slaughter of innocent Ukrainian men, women, and children.
Critics and legal experts argue that by actively interfering with military infrastructure to benefit an invading, authoritarian Apparatchik force, both figures have crossed the line from political interference into direct complicity in war crimes.

I keep saying it: Doug Ford has about 15 scandals that, on their own would’ve brought down any other government. And yet, no updates on any of these investigations. When is the Ford government gonna be held accountable for literally anything?
Ontario somehow manages a billion-dollar scandal every year now that would have sunk a government had it happened a decade ago, and yet no investigation has reported back and you can bet no one will end up in jail.
A billion dollars defrauded from OSAP and the only punishment will be inflicted on those who didn’t do anything wrong.
Every bad actor will take it as a sign that they can continue abusing the systems that they are.
In the past these scandals (Greenbelt, Skills Development Fund, now OSAP) would be the top news story until there was some accountability.
Now? Nothing.
Makes me so angry!

This is where we are: people are now describing writing without AI as “manual laboring the words out.” Writing is thinking, and if you’re not doing the work, you’re giving up the ability to think. What I never imagined is how eager many of us would be to abandon thought.
