Just a note that although this is no longer required by the state, Harris County will continue to notify any voters who might have an issue with their mail ballot and give them an opportunity to rectify it. #HarrisVotes
Texas can reject mail-in ballots over mismatched signatures without telling voters until after the election, 5th Circuit Court rules.
Local election officials, seldom trained in signature verification, match ballot signatures to those on applications.

This is disheartening to say the least.
Today I am announcing that to combat crime and decrease the numbers, I have approved a #COVID19 Related Crime Reduction Program. We will put $4.1 million of #CARESAct funding into an overtime initiative for the @houstonpolice Department.

I'll add that even though our statute lists clear protections, our board very much has the statutory authority to define standards of care, scope of practice & ethical principles. Which would allow us to extend protections beyond what's listed.
