I will be here until this ship goes down
But if you want to find me elsewhere, I'm @ theatreislife on TikTok and @ lastmidnight on instagram, because what is brand consistency?
And maybe if this site dies I'll actually have time to keep my instagram up to date
Y’all, if you haven’t seen the new Into the Woods cast you do need to go back to the Bridge before the end of the month I fear. Absolutely incredible
This is so incredibly impressive and I’m fully convinced whatever robotics system they are using to puppet this from afar has to be similar to whatever is inside the head of the Paddington costume to control the facial features
Other insane things I found out you can just do: rent a car in the UK with a US license. No test or anything. They just assume you’ll… figure it out I guess?
Just found out you can just… buy a voter membership to the Drama League? So it’s just the audience choice awards for people with extra pocket change? And it’s like NOT EVEN THAT EXPENSIVE. This feels like a joke
Actually if awards committees insist on awarding that direction then y’all deserve half baked staged concert productions over literally any sort of vision.
I can’t believe @GianmarcoSoresi gave us an immersive production of POTUS for free
Some of y’all really want to speak for everyone, but like the world is burning, let people say cunty
Basically onstage at Hadestown, and granted this is the non equity tour but that’s 100% a carnation, I can literally see the ridges on the petals
The most tiring part of awards season is discourse from people who have no idea how the awards work or didn’t see any of the shows.
The number of nominees is based on the number of eligible shows. They didn’t snub a production out of spite.
If we really want to have the conversation about awards and misogyny, let’s have that conversation. But instead of holding on to gendered categories let’s look at: nominating boards, the process for seeking new voters, what privileges are voters given?
Let’s talk about creative teams and how they are consistently male dominated. Who are they bringing in for associate jobs? Who are they giving opportunities to? Who are producing these shows and what stories are they choosing to tell?
Sometimes there are seasons where there’s just not that many good performances by women. You have to look at patterns, not one offs. Last year it was overrun by women.
