Chelsea's dad was diagnosed with young onset #dementia on her brother's 16th birthday. Her dad was 49, and she was 26 at the time. She has created a series of short videos sharing her family's experiences. The first touches on the signs and symptoms that led her dad, a self-employed joiner, to get a dementia diagnosis. "Awareness of young onset dementia – where symptoms develop before the age of 65 – has grown significantly. "More people now understand that #dementia can affect younger people, who are often working, raising families or supporting others." To mark the ten year anniversary of the Young Dementia Network, Dr Hilda Hayo OBE reflects on the Network’s achievements over the past decade and her hopes for the future: youngdementianetwork.org/new… @DementiaUK

The latest Survey of Adult Carers in England shows more than a third of carers are providing 100+ hours of care a week, with over half struggling to look after themselves properly. Caring around the clock should not mean sacrificing your own health, wellbeing, and ability to live a full life. Unpaid carers urgently need better funded support, real access to breaks, and a social care system that is there when they need it. Read our full response here bit.ly/46LO6BI

"When Mike didn't qualify for the funding, it was one of the most distressing moments of our dementia journey." - Trish. NHS continuing healthcare (CHC) funding can be a lifeline for people affected by #dementia, but too many families are missing out because the assessment process is flawed. Join Trish and over 22,500 others calling for a fairer CHC system by signing our petition today: action.dementiauk.org/fix-nh…

Many children and young people who live in families affected by #dementia receive little or no support. Please take a moment to sign this petition from @CarersTrust calling for a Young Carer's Champion in every school 👇
The petition to require a Young Carer's Champion in every school will be handed in next Tuesday so if you haven’t already, please take two minutes to sign before then. Up to one million children aged 5-18 have caring responsibilities but only 4,500 schools have a lead for young carers. We want to see EVERY school have one, which is why we're backing @VikkiSlade72 MP's call for a Young Carer's Champion in every school. Having this kind of support in all our schools can make a huge difference in helping young carers to balance learning and caring. You can add your support here: bit.ly/4zCTC6M #ChampionYoungCarers

For five years, the family of Andrea, 56, noticed growing changes in her behaviour, from forgetting names to minor car accidents and sending incoherent texts that read as if she were drunk. After several tests her mum was diagnosed with a genetically inherited frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a rare form of #dementia that most commonly occurs in middle age.
