According Amoghavajra's manual of Buddhist astrology (宿曜經) from the 8th century, 1月/1日 (first day of the New Year in the Chinese calendar) is always associated with the nakṣatra 室/Pūrvabhādrapadā. There's no alignment now, but it isn't too far off.
