My English translation of the classic song “Dhalanteed.” Written by Maxamed Cali Kaariye and performed by Xasan Diiriye Faarax & Hibo Nuura. The song is a poetic conversation between a husband and wife. The poet uses rich pastoral imagery, metaphor and symbolism to express disappointment, hardship and a marriage that has failed to live up to what they once hoped it would be. It’s a great example of how qaraami songs use pastoral imagery to express love, disappointment and everyday emotions. #Somaliland #Qaraami

“Sayla Guyaal Badan” my English Translation. Sayla was written in 1978 by Somaliland’s very own Xassan Xaji Cabdullahi (Xassan Ganey), Sayla beautifully captures Somaliland’s pastoral life, culture and traditions. Sung by the late Mujaahid Sahra Axmed Jaamac and Xassan Aadan Samatar. A fun fact: during a BBC interview, Xassan Aadan Samatar was asked to name his favourite song from his career. He chose Sayla and also spoke fondly of Sahra Axmed as his favourite artist to collaborate with. There’s something special about knowing that a song so loved by listeners also held such a special place for the artists who brought it to life. You’ll notice that I pronounce “sange” as “saange” in the video, which is incorrect. I had the laxan (melody) stuck in my head while recording, hence the slip! #Somaliland #Somalilandhomeofmusicandpoetry #Sayla

I had a productive meeting with Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi yesterday. Somaliland has already established itself as a reliable partner for the United States on a range of issues, from countering terrorism to protecting shipping around the Horn of Africa. We discussed further strengthening the U.S.-Somaliland partnership. I have been pushing the United States to deepen our partnership. I am committed to securing American recognition of Somaliland’s sovereignty and, in the meantime, I’m urging the State Department to stop treating Somaliland as the same as Somalia. The U.S. should establish a region-specific Travel Advisory specifically for Somaliland, which would reflect the reality on the ground. I look forward to continuing our work to advance our shared security interests.

Exclusive New York Post investigation: Ayanle Mohamed Siad, 61 — son of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre and his “right-hand man” in the regime’s final years — is living quietly in Columbus, Ohio. Barre’s rule is accused of killing some 200,000 people, including the Isaaq genocide in ( today’s Somaliland territory): cities bombed, wells poisoned, mass executions. Ayanle and his sister Deka arrived in the U.S. after the regime collapsed in 1991. Ayanle has never publicly denounced his father’s government. Deka’s family ran a home-health company that received more than $1.8 million in Medicare funds. Survivors in the same state are stunned: “My family was executed and thrown into a well… and he prays freely at the mosque.” A historian says Ayanle ran the state with an iron fist when his father was incapacitated. Activists are calling for a U.S. investigation, accountability, and recovery of any proceeds. Part of the community still honors Barre as an “honorable grandfather.” Neither sibling responded to the Post.

🇺🇸🇸🇴Ayanle Siad Barre, the son and “right-hand man” of Somali dictator Siad Barre, was just found living in a Columbus, Ohio suburb alongside his sister Deka. Their father’s 2-decade rule is blamed for the Isaaq genocide and as many as 200K deaths. Victims say they now share a city with the murderous family while no one from the regime has been held to account. A home health firm tied to Deka and her late husband claimed $1.8M in Medicare funds, and Ayanle has not publicly denounced the dictatorship.
🇺🇸🇸🇴BREAKING: The son of former Somali dictator Siad Barre is reportedly running a home healthcare company in Columbus, Ohio. According to a report, Ayanle Siad Barre, whose father ruled Somalia from 1969 to 1991, and some former regime insiders now live in the Columbus area.

@Taiwan_SLD literally just edited this map showing the Somalian claim, and added the words Somaliland and Puntland as equal entities on it.. basically conceding the Somalian narrative. This is an insult to your host nation. Utterly unacceptable. @Taiwan_SLD @MOFA_Taiwan

“Despite all this aid we've given, don't we have any influence over them at all” Former advisor to the President of TRNC @sabahatinismail

Kenyans are probably wondering why @DrMohamedOmarr has locked the comments section of his posts. He is widely known as one of the most corrupt, inept and dishonest politicians in Somaliland's history. A politician who fears hearing what his citizens truly think.. is a coward.
During his recent visit to Kenya, H.E. President @Abdirahmanirro of the Republic of Somaliland met with H.E. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, at State House, as well as Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula, Speaker of the National Assembly, and other senior Kenyan leaders. These engagements provided an important opportunity to further strengthen the Somaliland–Kenya relationship, with discussions covering areas of real potential for greater cooperation, including trade and investment, economic cooperation and matters of shared regional interest. The President also met with around 20 members of the diplomatic and development community in Nairobi. I considered this an especially important engagement, as it gave the President an opportunity to speak directly about Somaliland’s progress, the priorities of his administration and the opportunities for partnership in areas such as infrastructure, energy, healthcare, investment and economic development. Our partners, in turn, were able to engage the President directly, raise their questions and share their perspectives. Having worked closely with many of these partners, I was particularly encouraged by the genuine interest in Somaliland and the willingness to engage in a substantive discussion about where our respective interests can meet. The visit also provided an opportunity to build on relationships and conversations that @SomalilandinKe has been developing throughout the year. I am grateful to our Kenyan hosts and to the diplomatic and development community for the warm welcome extended to the President and for the openness with which they engaged him. There is considerable goodwill towards Somaliland in Kenya, and we at the Mission are encouraged by this. Our task now is to build on that goodwill, keep these conversations moving and turn the opportunities identified into meaningful partnerships and tangible results for Somaliland.

🚨 Cirro is failing, miserably. While patients are left to suffer because hospitals lacks critical medical equipment and corrupt leadership and doctors, this government is busy wasting public money on photo ops. This government has made it clear what matters more to them: headlines over human lives. For an institution like @somalilandmfa and its minister, @min_abdirahman to celebrate what appears to be so little after two years in office, while focusing more on having TikTokers follow him around than delivering meaningful results, says it all. The bar for Abdirahman Cirro and his team is far too low.
Diaspora Week 2026 kicked off today with Day 1's opening panel, 'Harnessing the Strategic Potential of the Somaliland Diaspora'.

Somalia waxay mar walba ugaadh-sadaan sidii ay dhalinyaradaas gacanta ugu dhigi lahaayeen . Halka dadka Somaliland haystaana ay ku mashquulsan yihiin suudhadh iyo sawiro kolba meel ay ku soo galaan. Waa kaaf iyo kala dheeri ....
The #Somalian🇸🇴 government recently approached Shakir Ahmed, hoping to leverage his groundbreaking technological innovations to extend their reach over #Somaliland. But this moment calls for a different path. Somaliland must seize the initiative-we need to invest in our own talent, in innovators like Shakir, who have the vision to protect our future. As piracy rises and the Bab el-Mandeb is shut, we face a critical inflection point. By backing these innovations, Somaliland can fortify its borders, safeguard its waterways, and assert its sovereignty; no longer at the mercy of a corrupt Mogadishu regime, but driven by homegrown talent and innovation.

Funny how people spend so much time arguing something “doesn’t exist.” Nobody wastes energy denying what isn’t there. The louder the denial, the clearer the reality.

We’re expecting to believe that an East African country is about to re-recognise Somaliland on a weekend evening. This government clearly thinks the public is a laughing stock and many seem content to prove them right.

This is why I said Somaliland's problem has nothing to do with the strength of our cause... but our tendency to tolerate fools. Cawaanimo kills. Poor judgment kills. We have to call it out. The xoolo named @haadka is trying to shift the conversation away from the embarrassment he caused Somaliland and turn it into a childish debate about jealousy and brownie points. "We long for you" is not a serious way to advocate for Somaliland or persuade anyone to support it. The fact that an adult thought this was a viable message to convince people is not just cringeworthy or sad, but damaging to Somaliland. Teeda kale, it's wild this former follower is calling bhlub faqash. Cagdheer @hamse_warfa, whom he tried to whitewash to Landers is literally his mother's brother. When that failed, the coward threw a tantrum, deleted all his tweets, and deactivated his account. Faqashnimo waa taas.

The Somaliland Police force have released a statement on their official Facebook page condemning the actions of the police officers in the video. The SL police force have also confirmed that all the officers involved in this case have been arrested and will be dealt with with the full extent of the law.
Look at how this citizen is beaten the Somaliland police have completely failed to be a friend to the people turning into monsters! How can they treat citizens like this? The state must stop this daily violence immediately. If we stay silent today tomorrow it'll be one of us!

It was a honour to speak at the historic Birmingham Council House on the 26th June 2026 commemorating the Republic of Somaliland’s 66th Independence Day anniversary. This remarkable event was a joint effort of @UKSLAlliance, Somaliland Society Europe, Somaliland Diaspora UK and the Somaliland Swiss Association. #Somaliland #SomalilandIndependenceDay #26June #UKSomalilandAlliance #Birmingham
Yesterday the UKSLA, SSE and the SLDUK came together to celebrate the 66th anniversary of Somaliland’s independence (26th June 1960) in the heart of Birmingham at the historic Council House. There could hardly be a more fitting place to commemorate this historic occasion. Birmingham Council is the largest city council in Europe and is home to one of the largest Somaliland communities in the United Kingdom.
