When a human being, or even an animal, gets beaten down enough and reaches the point where fear disappears, they enter a state between "I’m not afraid of death anymore" and "even if I die, so be it." At that level, something shifts psychologically. A kind of supernatural force takes over, and they become extremely powerful. We all have dormant energy inside us, and certain mindsets or sudden shocks can awaken it.
