These past few days I’ve seen a lot of reductive takes on Zoro’s writing but I’m glad to see people defending him too. Reducing him to “aura farming” while ignoring his values, inner conflicts, convictions and sacrifices is such a shallow way of looking at his character. Zoro’s writing goes way beyond his fights. A lot of his characterization comes through his decisions, his actions, his sense of duty, his ambition and the tension between his own goals and his role within the crew. Being stoic doesn’t mean he lacks emotions or internal struggles. His actions simply carry a lot more weight when it comes to his characterization. I do agree that his lore needs more expansion but I think we’ll get more of that in the future. Sanji’s more introspective and emotionally expressive writing doesn’t take away from the complexity of Zoro’s character. They’re just written differently. I respect people preferring one type of writing over the other but confusing Zoro’s writing with a lack of depth says more about readers who aren’t willing to look deeper into his character than it does about the writing itself. #ONEPIECE #ZORO #ゾロ #ロロノアゾロ
