My 70-year-old father fell sick in December; a disease so mystifying it left me and my family breathless. It was not a typical illness — more cascade than cataclysm — but at its peak, it had laid him low as effectively as a bolt of lightning.

The Norwegian Consumer Council made a video about enshittification and got 2.5M views and 168K likes on IG. (If the style feels familiar, it was created by NewsLab, the same advertising agency that made the brilliant Visit Oslo video from a few years back.)

The clearest view yet of the Aug. 26 Langtang Lirung collapse behind the Nepal–Tibet floods has emerged in footage verified by The New York Times. Hikers heard a loud crack, then ice, rock and debris plunged into the valley in a massive dust cloud. A second clip shows the debris racing downhill.

One of my favorite Dolly stories is one Julia Roberts told about being on the set of Steel Magnolias. It was, naturally, very hot and humid, and Julia turned to Dolly and said, "Aren't you hot? With the wig and everything? Just, you know, just say it's hot!"
And Dolly looked at her and said, "When I was a little girl, I used to dream about being famous and rich, and now I'm both of those things. So I'm not going to complain."
May we all be so grateful and gracious when our dreams come true.

Nine years ago I had dinner with Armie Hammer right before Call Me by Your Name released. He told me he was 'waiting for the other shoe to drop.' It dropped. Last week we had dinner again. My new @THR story on what's left after total public collapse:

When Mum and Dad passed away last year, I found this letter in their bedroom. I’m pretty sure it kick-started their 60 year relationship - Mum was clearly besotted.

Last year, I met a Mexican athlete who told me an incredible story—that he’d been kidnapped in 2023 and forced to compete for his life in a secret tournament of cartels. Once I started reporting, the story only got more surreal.

Extraordinary piece in FT about the operation to kill #Iran's regime's supreme leader Khamenei.
Nearly all traffic cameras in Tehran were hacked by #Israel for years. They knew when members of the #IRGCterrorists Vali Amr Protection Unit (Khamenei's bodyguards) came and left work on Pasteur Street. And interestingly the CIA--not Mossad--had a human source which assisted with the effort.

This aired tonight to 1 billion people in China. A year ago these robots could barely wave a handkerchief, now they can do backflips and kung fu with nunchucks. Physical intelligence is the next frontier.

Happy weekend everyone. For most Filipinos; it's time to remember the dead; the ones who are gone; the ones we loved.
I remember a few; two aunts, three friends. They were very much loved by me
