@DouthatNYT Enjoyed thoughtful convo w/ @pmarca. Also found it aggravating. I appreciate his frustration w/ “radical” employee groupthink. But wasn’t the mechanism for this exactly the social media algos that he funded & touts? Sounded like a farmer bemoaning roosted chickens.

Silicon Valley has done a lot of good (Netscape included). Reasonable for Marc to be frustrated w/ blindness to this. Yet can Andreessen et al see *any* negative consequences of FB, IG, X, AI, etc? For me, that’s where seriousness bottoms out. (BTW, bravo analogy to nuclear.)

@Desmos Is it possible to read the window bounds of a sketch? (I know it's possible to read the "width" and "height" of the browser window in pixels. I'm referring to the left/right/bottom/top in graph paper units.) Thanks. Cool calculator, BTW.

I’m admittedly biased. But this is one of the best (and most respectful) approaches to math PD that I’ve ever seen. Thoughtful colleague discussions sparked by intentional questions. I share Heather’s pride in what @citizen_math developed for teachers.

Learning is social. Rather than trying to fix education by algorithm (however tempting and cost-effective it may be), I think we should be doubling down on human teaching and learning: real teachers; thoughtful PD; meaningful convos. Socrates is hard, yes. But C3PO is dystopian.

Ed tech investors like @reachcapital are all-in on programs that have students stare at screens. The head of K-12 R&D for @gatesfoundation literally founded a program called the “School of One.” How will this lead to anything other than misery? Have we truly lost the plot?

Innovations like Facebook, personalized news, etc. have exacerbated many of the problems we face as a society today. School exists to make us better. Expecting tech-topians like Zuckerberg, Gates, Hewlett, etc. to fix education is like expecting the Marlboro Man to cure cancer.
