KalpaTech

KalpaTech has been a dedicated supporter of the @cosmos and @cosmoshub community since the very beginning. From participating in pre-launch testnets to being a Game of Stakes winner and a Cosmos Hub genesis validator, helping the validator community by actively joining all Hub's testnets and sharing our expertise, to running long term community initiatives like "Today in @cosmos", building the Cosmos Governance Notification Tool and participating productive ideas in governance, we've consistently strived to help the Hub in every possible way. Sometimes supporting the Hub means making difficult decisions. That’s why we have voted YES on proposal #952, requesting @interchain_io to increase transparency regarding their spending of public community funds, address the current conflicts of interest, and embrace greater accountability for the direction and growth of the Hub. We understand that some community members may see this vote as opposition to the Hub, but we view it as a commitment to uphold the core values of transparency, accountability, and trust—principles that should guide any thriving community. Our vote reflects our belief that these actions will benefit the Hub in the long run. We remain deeply committed to the Hub’s mission and vision. Far from losing hope, we believe that asking for increased transparency from the ICF—the entity responsible for stewarding the Cosmos Hub—is essential for restoring trust and supporting the Hub's future growth. For us and hopefully for many others, these values are the foundation of a collaborative environment that drives innovation and progress. We believe that now more than ever the ICF has the opportunity to restore community confidence by providing clear, comprehensive information that addresses current concerns. We hope they will support this community request, and once these current challenges are resolved, engage in a productive dialogue with the community about building a stronger future and vision for the Hub. It is our belief that this is definitely something that the Hub needs and can benefit from. As we reflect on why we joined this ecosystem, we believe that the Hub has a unique opportunity ahead. By addressing these current issues, restoring complete trust, and reaffirming the Hub’s pioneering mission, we can all contribute to a vision that allows the Cosmos Hub to grow beyond its current limitations. We extend our thanks to @DokiaCapital for their support and delegation to @kalpa_tech. Though we may have different views on proposal #952, we respect their perspective and their decision to redelegate from us.

In light of the recent discussions, Kalpatech maintains its NO vote on prop #839 by Informal and Hypha to fund Cosmos Hub development. We believe that before committing any new funds towards core development to any teams, we need to first clarify these pending questions. 👇

1. Acc to the ICF Funding report/Feb 2023, medium.com/the-interchain-fo… a total spending of ~ $40M was estimated to be done for Cosmos Hub dev, interoperability, consensus, security and others. Informal mentions that they have received ~4.5M$. Did this include ATOM bonuses or not?

2. Can @interchain_io provide a breakdown of the 2023 spendings to date on teams to understand how those amounts have been spent and on what? Also, were there ATOM bonuses distributed in 2023 and if so, what is the breakdown on those?

3. In addition to the 3.5M$ that ICF committed to fund the HUB are there other funding amounts planned to be distributed in 2024 to Informal and Hypha for other areas of contribution, in addition to the specific request made to the community pool for Cosmos Hub Roadmap funding?

4. Can @interchain_io clarify the reasoning behind the huge payment of 845k ATOM made in bonuses last year, from which 279k ATOMs went to Informal, amounts which potentially doubled ICF yearly spending from 35M$ to possible 70M$? And how this conflict of interest was resolved?

5. Can @informalinc present a list of the 14 team members that they are being proposed to work on the Hub, so that the community can evaluate their past and current contributions? We believe direct accountability is crucial to maintaining a transparent process…

To clear any misunderstandings, we have nothing but love for @JTremback , as we are very appreciative of his work. This being said, we are genuinely curious about the 14 headcount that Informal is proposing as we want to better understand their previous contributions.

6. Before deciding to fund a team to lead Hub’s development, can we, the community come together first and discuss what are Hub’s priorities and what Hub’s future development looks like? And once we have a common plan forward we designate a team or multiple teams to implement it?

We for sure don’t have all the answers, but would definitely feel more confident if we would talk product first and funding after. The product is the Hub and we would like to hear from other participants in the community as well, contributors that we appreciate and value..

…and see them participate in Hub’s roadmap discussion by sharing their ideas on Hub’s priorities. Hub is not just one team, but a collection of contributors spread across the ecosystem. Let’s encourage active listening & participation as part of our decentralization efforts.

This being said, we believe the current proposal is rushed and the community should encourage active discourse before deciding not only on a future funding amount but also on Cosmos Hub’s direction, roadmap and the team/teams that will steward Hub’s development.
