After the Chennai floods, when most volunteers had packed up and gone home, Shreeram Ravichandran kept thinking about one thing he had seen: families standing on empty land where their homes used to be, with no idea where they would sleep the following week.
That gap became the problem he and his childhood friend Gobi spent the next decade solving. Modulus Housing has since delivered over 1,500 foldable buildings across 21 Indian states.

Our founders presented Digantaraโs Gen 2 optical payload to Honโble Prime Minister @narendramodi, built for Space Domain Awareness and now advancing towards missile defence. After hearing about what it could do, he smiled and asked, โIs this for me? Then Iโm keeping this.โ A moment our team will remember for a long time.

At seven, Saurya Mishra took apart his grandfatherโs alarm clock. At 23, he built his first X-ray machine at Philips. Its first patient was an 18-month-old baby in a village in China, an image he still keeps with him. Years later, after observing surgeons stretched thin in Cuttack and the lack of access to advanced healthcare, Sauryaโs vision grew much firmer. Today, his company reimagines and builds surgical robotic systems that enable surgeons, expand access to advanced procedures, and provide better surgical outcomes to more patients. From an alarm clock to surgical robots, this is the story of how one engineer turned childhood curiosity into a mission for better surgery and national self-reliance.
