Hosting is one of the few industries where you can spend 6 months building something nobody notices
and break one tiny thing everyone notices in 6 minutes.

Almost every "cPanel alternatives" guide online was written by someone selling one of the alternatives.
Which means none of them can tell you to stay where you are.
We can. ChemiCloud sells hosting, not control panels. We're a cPanel partner, we have no product in this category, and we've absorbed every price increase since 2019. So we wrote the comparison we'd have wanted.
A few things in it that the vendor content tends to skip:
→ Plesk is owned by the same company as cPanel. Both sit under WebPros, consolidated after the Oakley Capital acquisition around 2018 — and cPanel's move to per-account pricing followed in 2019. Switching to Plesk changes your pricing model. It doesn't change who sets it.
→ The pricing model matters more than the price. Same server, 40 accounts: cPanel costs about 3.5× DirectAdmin. At 400 accounts: 7.5×. Low-density and high-density operators should reach opposite conclusions, and most advice doesn't know which one you are.
→ Migration payback is longer than people assume. On a 13-licence fleet we make it roughly 18 months to 2.5 years. A payback past that range rarely survives contact with reality, because something in the plan always costs more than the plan said.
→ You don't have to choose for the whole fleet. Running a second panel on new servers only captures most of the benefit at almost none of the migration cost. Almost nobody writes about this.
DirectAdmin, Enhance, AdminBolt, Plesk, and the free options — with the downsides listed, because a comparison with no trade-offs is an advert.

I’ve been testing ChatGPT Ads for AdminBolt.
- 200k impressions
- 7k clicks
- 128 conversions
- $0.18 CPC
~$1.2k spent
For this type of product, it works quite well.
I also tested regular hosting ads out of curiosity. Much more average.
Early takeaway: ChatGPT Ads may work better when the user is actively trying to solve a specific problem.
Hosting has a strange pricing bug. Sell more accounts → pay more for the panel.
Do better work → the software vendor takes a cut. No other serious B2B tool works like this.
Imagine paying GitHub per repository you host for a client.
We’re just wrapping up another 50 changes and small improvements to the AdminBolt control panel.
Nothing revolutionary.
Just 50 more things that are now slightly better than yesterday.

Which forum do you think is the best in terms of community activity? I’d like to focus on just one for AdminBolt.com. @lowendtalk , @webhostingtalk , or something else?

From the hosting side it looks simpler than a slow death. Most SMBs never needed a CMS. They needed 5 pages, a form and a phone number, and WordPress was the only way to get that without a developer. Now an agent writes those 5 pages as plain HTML in a minute and edits them the same way. So WP isn't losing to Astro or to agents, it's losing the part of the market that was only there by accident. Your friend's plugin sales are the other part: stores, publishers, sites with real workflows. That part stays, and it's smaller than the WP install count suggests
We're building a small layer on top of Claude and Codex inside our hosting panel. Type what the site is, get a working 4-page business site with a contact form, edit it in plain English.
No pricing. No plan for pricing. It's a feature, not a product.
Website builders were a $20/month product because making a simple site was hard. It isn't anymore. In two years 'builder' is a checkbox in the hosting plan, and the companies selling it as the main product will have to sell something else.
Most of the decisions in the hosting industry happen in a hotel bar in Rust, Germany, once a year. If you've never been to @cloudfest you don't know who owns your host.
I co-founded AdminBolt.com, a hosting control panel.
Tell me the ONE thing that makes switching your current panel impossible.
Not annoying. Impossible.
I'll tell you whether we support it, don't support it, or haven't thought of it.
Publicly. No sales call.
You can now change a website's PHP version from WhatsApp with AdminBolt.
Technically, this is progress.
Personally, "I'll check when I'm back at my computer" was a very useful sentence.
Building a hosting control panel is easy.
You just need to support Linux, databases, DNS, mail, backups, migrations, APIs, security, networking and 400 things nobody remembers until they break.
Anyway, AdminBolt.com 1.8 is out.
Every panel is bolting a chat box onto their UI right now. That's not the hard part.
The hard part is the layer underneath: what an agent is allowed to touch, whose account it acts on, and a log of every action it took.
Permissions and audit first, model second. Otherwise you're handing root to a text box.
One of our clients gave us a condition: we’ll migrate to Adminbolt.com if you build an integration with Acronis. They had a million questions about our scale just to send us the documentation :D We spent a month trying to get Acronis to provide us with their API documentation, and in the end we simply built a fully equivalent solution ourselves from scratch.
The client tested it, is happy with it, and won’t be paying $900K a year to cPanel or any additional fees for Acronis licenses.
More AdminBolt deployments are going live.

Different infrastructures, different business models - one control panel.
And the biggest AdminBolt announcements are still ahead.
