Allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Justin Block and I'm a 5th generation entrepreneur. My family started our first business in 1910. My great great grandfather started a food canning company, which was then sold in 1942. In 1948, my great grandfather co-founded Reddi-wip. In 1965, my grandfather started the first UHT dairy-plant in the country. We sold them both in 1978. A few years later in 1981, my grandfather started Darifair Foods (now Rubix Foods). Over the years, the business evolved into a food science company making flavor systems for some of the biggest restaurant chains in the country. I joined after college to help build and sell it. Due to my incredible family and our amazing team, we sold it in 2019 and again in 2025. Every generation had built a business, sold it, and started again. That was the only life I ever knew. I never considered doing anything else. But somewhere along the way I realized building companies wasn't the whole picture for me. I never liked school. I felt lost for a long time. The things that actually changed my life were books, mentors, and spending time by myself to get to know myself more. Now I'm running Block Ventures, my personal investment firm, venture studio, and media company. I start and invest in businesses across food and beverage, sports, tech, and education. I'm writing my first book. And our media arm is built around one thing: helping people become the best version of themselves. If my journey and 115 years of family business has taught me one thing, it's this: you don't need to be a billionaire to live well. You just need to know yourself early and go directly for what you want. I'm excited to continue sharing my learnings and for what's next. The journey is just getting started!

If all the answers were within us, most people would have amazing lives. Obviously, this is not the case. You need to learn from other people. You need other people tell you what you’re good and bad at. Learn from the smartest people before us to make your life better!

A lot of people are posting content. But very few are posting content that’s actually going to improve your life. Ignore the noise and be careful who you listen to.

The more I’ve climbed the mountain of “success”, the more I realize how one dimensional most entrepreneurs are. A lot of them are boring and only want to talk business. They have no hobbies because their life is mostly work. It makes me sad. I would not want to switch lives with them. Cmon man…we need to better!

Most people see failure as a personal setback, a chink in the armor of success. The master sees failure as an important part of progress, because the master has failed more times than the beginner has ever tried.

Most people spend most of their lives working for money. But when you ask them about money - they don’t know much about it. What a nightmare!

If you can’t see yourself doing it forever, you shouldn’t do it.

A great imagination will lead to a great life. Most people’s imaginations suck because they are so busy and never have time to dream or think about what they really want. Dream more, think big, and let your imagination run wild.

If you sell any kind of physical product, you NEED to understand your supply chain. Most businesss owners don't understand their supply chain well enough. Which means they're leaving money on the table for themselves and their customers. The best operators know every moving part behind every invoice. If you want to make your business better, you have to understand the entire product lifecycle. Let’s use food and beverage for example - from the farm to the end customer. The concepts below will apply to whatever product you are selling as well: 1. Raw material inputs and market pricing Where do your raw materials come from, how do they trade on the market, and what inputs are driving their prices? Once they enter production, you need to know your true yield. If you don't know the usable product that comes out of the raw input, you're losing money on day one. 2. Tolling fees Know the exact operational cost to process that raw input into a finished good. When you separate tolling fees from raw material costs, you stop paying markup on someone else's overhead. 3. Packaging and freight Packaging, storage, and freight fluctuate constantly. If you don't track what drives those costs between the facility and the customer, you can't spot where your margins are leaking. When you understand everything happening behind the scenes, you stop paying for someone else's blind spots. That is how you save more money, make more money, and save your customers more money too!
