Honestly I’d be holding the offer and letting them decline, and finish 18th again
Essendon president Andrew Welsh has fired the first shot of trade week, warning Hawthorn not to “get too cute with us again” in negotiations for Zach Merrett.

I don’t want Merrett if it’s for 3 firsts
Hawthorn and Essendon have re-drawn the battle lines for Zach Merrett.
The Hawks’ opening shot this week - 12 months after last year’s miss - was 15, 25 & a future third.
Essendon say no.
Last year’s final offer as the clock ticked down was 9, 22, F1 & Henry Hustwaite for Merrett & a F3.
Merrett, 31 on Sat, has an in-principle agreement with the Hawks on a four-year, $4 million contract.
